We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Chamberlain recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Optimism is my ultimate mindset goal. I thrive in enthusiasm and consciously choose one day at a time to be positive no matter the circumstances. This is a learned behavior definitely not something I was born with. I’m sure my mother can attest to that.
For me optimism is obtained and maintained by the daily practice of prayer and meditation, self care, exercise, and adequate sleep. If I’m consistent with these practices then the choice is relatively easy.
So I think my optimism comes from the power of emotional choice- that I can choose every day to be optimistic.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about your business?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Over time I’ve built a positive community of strong people who support and hold me accountable. It’s taken nearly a lifetime to accept that at times I will fail in art and business yet I continue to create anyway. The accountability helps me push on.
I think another nugget of knowledge is that I’m not always willing to be energetic or enthusiastic in creating but I must continually work past those moments with diligence and grace.
During the pandemic I participated in an online book club via the ZOOM. The book by Julia Cameron called ‘The Artist’s Way’ really helped pave the way to deeper healing and develop new tools on how to push through creative blocks.
Today, I don’t need to find “the motivation”. I used to give into the excuse of I’m just not feeling it or I don’t want to. Honestly, none of that even matters. I acknowledge the whiny thoughts, write them out of my head (literally write them down) and move onward for art and creating is just apart of me now.
This mindset choice is powerful and knowing now that I don’t have to react to that temporary feeling is so freeing. It’s an absolute gift.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The book ‘The Artist’s Way’ by Julia Cameron is excellent! I recommend reading it with another person or participating in a book club.
