Meet Yuliana Johnson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yuliana Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Yuliana, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Being born in a third world country like Colombia puts many things in your life in perspective. Growing up I dreamt about wanting to become a hairstylist, have my own salon, and a place where I could make people feel their best version of themselves.

As I got older that dream was fading away because at that time, I could not make a living doing hair. So, I had to hustle hard to be able to go to college, and support my family. Later, I moved to the states, and I decided to make my dream come true. I went to beauty college and got my Cosmetologist License. A few years later I decided to get my Barber License. I finally opened my Salon Suite in Houston TX. Mission accomplished. Life was going great until my husband got his dream job, and we had to relocate to San Antonio TX.

Consequently, my dream was interrupted to allow my husband to have his. So, we packed and moved to San Antonio. Fortunately, I was able to start over.

I started from zero building my clientele, and putting my name out there. I am glad I did it. I am currently working at my own salon suite doing what I love to do, and traveling the world.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a dual licensed Barber & Cosmetologist. I am very passion about all things hair. I do currently own Yuliana Hair Artistry, LLC. I do offer haircare services such as Balayage, Hair Extensions, Haircuts, and I’m a Men’s Grooming Expert.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Continuing Education will be my top priority. If you want to perform your best you have to invest in education. I love to attend different Hair shows, and take classes online as well. These have helped me to keep up to date with techniques and products. The beauty industry keeps evolving, and you need to evolve with it.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. “And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
This book has changed my life since the first time I read it. I highly recommend to everyone. Never stop dreaming!
