Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rob Jelinski. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Rob, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you? Many times I have stepped into a room and noticed that I look different from those around me; clients, colleagues, or peers. It can be intimidating and limiting if you imagine all the things others may be thinking about you.
How do I overcome these thoughts and not let them hold me back from being successful in that room?
I choose not to think about it.
I choose not put words in their mouths and I choose to give myself a fair chance to make a good impression with them.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a business leader with over 20 years in the game. I’m a multi-hyphen creative so some will know me as a marketing strategist, others as a public speaker, and yet others for my heritage as a brand designer.
While most know me as the founder of a global, award-winning family of brands (Rob Jelinski Studios), I’m also proud of my art direction & designs that have toured throughout the US & Europe along with my works that have been published.
As my brands have expanded over the years, I have enjoyed coaching and mentoring other leaders and entrepreneurs to help them build, grow, and scale their brands.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Leadership, creativity, and resilience greatly impacted my journey for the better. They continue to give back to this day. I would also say that it is important to remember that none of our career paths are linear. They take twists and turns, ups and downs. So it is important to use the qualities of leadership, and resilience to know when to keep driving your business idea forward and when your creativity is needed to find a new way, solution, or mindset. These three are essential.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
