Meet Aleah Clinton

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aleah Clinton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Aleah, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Fake it till you make it! I developed my confidence and self esteem by looking at examples of women with high confidence and emulating their behaviors. When I was in high school, I was obsessed with Kerry Washington’s character, Olivia Pope from Scandal. In my anxious, adolescent eyes, she was the epitome of an undeniable, confident Black woman. I loved how she carried herself and I really wanted to carry that same stride. So I literally started to walk and talk like Olivia Pope. I would ask myself, “What would Olivia Pope do?” or “How would Olivia Pope address this?”; and I did the same with other characters I admired from TV, books, and even real life. Soon enough, I didn’t feel like I was faking my confidence. I truly felt confident and my self esteem rose immensely!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am truly a creative with many mediums. Professionally I produce television, documentaries, commercials, film photography and music. I am in a season of nurturing and cultivating talent as a producer and A&R. Although I work with high-profile clients and celebrities on a regular basis, I have been making efforts to connect and work with promising artists and creatives in my community. Community outreach is so important to my mission, so I’m look forward to collaborating and participating in more outreach in the near future.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Along my journey, there have been three of my natural qualities that have helped me tremendously: Charisma, Confidence and Adaptability. In the entertainment industry, charisma and confidence are master keys to most doors, and adaptability is a tool which will raise your value in any given room. My charisma and personality have played a crucial part in my professional growth. Once I learned to be myself and to be confident in myself, other like-minded creatives began to be attracted to me and sought out work with me. Be careful not to confuse arrogance for confidence; as confidence is an assuredness of your value while arrogance is an exaggeration of it. Diversify your skills and learn to be adaptable, it will make you an undeniable asset. These simple qualities have helped set me apart from my peers and open doors to countless opportunities.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is an amazingly inspiring read! No matter your age, gender, race or religious beliefs, I believe everyone should read it. This story encouraged me to find and step into my life’s purpose, with the understanding that the universe is conspiring in my favor!
