Meet Jakob Guevara

We were lucky to catch up with Jakob Guevara recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jakob , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Growing up I always loved public speaking because it gave me an opportunity to influence others in a positive way.

I grew up watching and playing sports, and I always admired how professionals perform in a public setting. A place to perform their very best in the eyes of criticism and achievement.

Public speaking says a lot about your character, leadership, and confidence and self esteem.

From speaking to a class to for a presentation, to management meetings, to conferences, these platforms gave me the opportunity to be confident in my ability to communicate with others.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hello! Thanks for reading this! I know you could be scrolling through your phone 😅

I’ll keep it short and sweet while I got you here. My name is Jakob and I’m a Nationally Ranked Marketer for a firm based in NYC. But more importantly, I love clothes and music and my ambition is to intertwine my corporate life with my passions.

I’m originally from the West Side of Chicago and I’ve been living in NYC for the past 4 years. NYC is a melting pot of all things creative.

Coming here, I did events for runway shows, worked with designers, and of course work for marketing and sales company to pay the bills 💸

I also said I love music. As most people who love fashion do. I DJ because house music can get anyone energetic, no matter who they are.

I like what I do. “Corporate America”. Because it gives me managerial skills I will need to launch my own brand one day with my friends. However, I never lose sight of my true passions. It is through this career I have of marketing, I will know how to market myself.

Just being in the industry, I’ve already received national recognition in a matter of months. I always say greatness is a responsibility. So I’m responsible of showcasing my true potential. And you’re too.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1) Believe in your “unique” self. Everyone is different. What makes you… you! What is that makes you tick. Find that and be about that! 2) Find people you look up to and learn about them. My favorite fashion designer is Jerry Lorenzo of Fear of God. I’ve watched all his interviews because I’m obsessed on his creativity. As it’s similar to mine. Find that person like you.
3) Be thankful of where you are at. You are where you’re supposed to be. The journey is hard but that’s why it is a journey and not the destination.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Think about it logically. When you take out emotion it makes everything simpler.

If you don’t like something, change it. And if you can’t change it, change your attitude about it.
