We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DeNesha Moss. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DeNesha below.
Hi DeNesha, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
This is a GREAT question. I’m going to try to be as transparent as possible because I know a lot of people struggle in this area. Whether it is a struggle for you or not, this is an area where I believe 100% of people would find beneficial in their efforts of living successful and productive lives. Life has its way of knocking us down over and over and over and over again. But no matter how hard the blows are, if we possess the confidence and self-esteem to try again; that’s where we find our resilience and strength. I developed both confidence and self-esteem in two ways.
Number one, my mama! God bless, Becky Denise Daniels! I tell you what, if she could have raised a million young girls, ALL of them would walk with their heads held high and with smiles on their faces. She just never gave me the option to have low self-esteem. As a child, even to this day, she always VERBALLY acknowledges my worth. She tells me, “I’m beautiful, wise, gifted, and intelligent.” She reminds me that I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me. She will sternly tell me in my low points that my tears have an expiration date, and as soon as I dot that door (her very own words): make myself presentable, straighten up my back, and put a smile on my face. Why? Because life doesn’t stop with every tragedy. We have to have the gumption to dust ourselves off, encourage ourselves, and dare to try again. When I look in the mirror, I can hear my mother’s words when I can’t muster up the strength to say them myself. There’s that word, “Hear” again. The late, great, and amazingly gifted, Dr. Myles Munroe, would say that my mother’s words motivated me because we are motivated by what we hear. The Bible says in Romans 10:14 (NIV), “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not HEARD? And how can they HEAR without someone preaching to them.” You see, there is POWER in what we SAY and what we HEAR. If all we hear are negative words, then those words deplete, drain, and starve our confidence and self-esteem. On the other hand, when we hear encouraging, life-changing, complimentary, and appreciative words; those words give us the confidence and the self-esteem to try again, to bounce back from the loss of a job or a loved one, to speak in front of a crowd, to excel in our careers, to achieve higher degrees of education, and to love ourselves when people try to diminish our value. I’m grateful that I could receive those vital success tools in my home with my mom, my grandmother, and my great-grandmother. They poured into me, therefore, I can pour into others. I understand, unfortunately, everyone may not have the opportunity to receive from their parents, but it would be very remiss of me if I did not pass on the other SOURCE where I developed my confidence and self-esteem. That SOURCE is the church.
Growing up in Monticello, Arkansas, I attended Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. My mom, there she goes again :-), would make sure that I had the longest easter speeches AND I would have to memorize them. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t some bootcamp she put me through – lol! She just had so much faith in what God placed inside of me. Then, on top of that, I could hear my great-grandmother, Carrie Courtney, saying in the background, “Nesha, don’t need no microphone” because they taught me to speak clearly when presenting in front of people. My grandmother, Joyce Sawyer, would be sitting in the choir stand saying, “That’s MY baby right there.” How could I not stand up there in my little easter dress, with the microphone in my hand, and recite my MEMORIZED multi-paragraph easter speech to perfection with all of my Hype Women in the crowd! What a way to instill confidence and self-esteem! Now, fast-forward to today, I have the best support from my First Lady, Dr. Toni Brown at Victory Station Ministries. I serve as Evangelist DeNesha Moss, and I am completely humbled and awed by the choice God made. I share my testimonies and my love for Jesus as I actively serve in the church with the full support of my Pastor, Craig Brown and his wife, Dr. Toni Brown. First Lady Toni and I look forward to serving women in our WOW (Women of the Word) movement where we will pour our love into women, giving them the confidence and self-esteem to be all they were created to be. After all, we were blessed to have wonderful women who took the time to shape us into the women we are today! It truly takes a village, and I’m so thankful to have the confidence and self-esteem to be the DeNesha God chose and called me to be!
Confidence and self-esteem can develop in anyone, especially, if they are exposed to the right people and environments. It may not come from your home, but there’s always a teacher, someone in your church, or even a stranger that can say one word that will leave a lasting impact on you. Even in your lowest moment, you’ll hear those words, and try again because you are fully persuaded, void of all doubt, in who you are and what you are capable of doing.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
When I initiated my relationship with Voyage magazine, I launched my Roku talkshow. Once I completed three seasons, I knew I was being shifted in a different direction, however; I had no idea what was next. As I continued to grow in my faith in Jesus Christ, my desire to connect, especially with women, grew even stronger. I think there’s a point in life where we’re positioned to assist, educate, love, and encourage based on our heart and the wisdom we gained from success and failures. I want to celebrate women and their achievements. And as we say at Victory Station Ministries, I want to also love women back to life if they’re going through a difficult season. Now, I’m in a position to do so in a more intimate way. On AUGUST 24, 2024, I’m looking forward to meeting, loving, and pouring into women from all walks of life as First Lady Dr. Toni Brown and I launch our WOW (Women Of the Word) movement. This will be the most joyous occasion where women can be real, transparent, and UNASHAMED to take off their superwoman capes, remove the masks, and unmuzzle their mouths in a SAFE environment. We will dance, laugh, cry, and grow together as we meet MONTHLY to have our own “girl time.” Yay!!!!
I’m so excited about the WOW movement and how it’s going to impact women. Women are strong, gifted, creative, victorious, intelligent, wise… I could go on and on. It’s time to celebrate who we are, our differences, our strengths, and collaborate on how we can continue to be positive and influential voices in every sphere of influence. We have soooooo much in store, so please continue to follow me on instagram “fashioned4dominion” and follow Dr. Toni Brown on instagram “ladytonibrown” as well for upcoming details. If you’re in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area on August 24th, you won’t want to miss our event! We’re going to make the world say, “WOW” when they see us!!!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
A beautiful, anointed woman was introduced to me by a group of women as they spoke forth Words of Knowledge. I’d never heard of this woman before, so I read all of her books and looked in amazement at several youtube videos as I watched how powerfully God used her. Her name was Kathryn Kuhlman. Ms. Kuhlman wrote a book titled, ” A Glimpse Into Glory.” In her book, there’s a chapter titled, “Faith and Gumption.” In that chapter, Ms. Kuhlman discussed how we can have all the faith in the world, but if we don’t have the gumption to make things happen, then what we believe will never be realized. I completely agree with her. We have to have a strategy, a plan, some direction and the gall to believe that what we have or what we are producing will benefit others. Without the faith, complete trust or confidence in someone or something, nothing will ever get started. We must have faith and gumption. We have to believe and then we’ll see. We have to act on what we believe. Faith and works go together.
The third area of knowledge I’d give folks who are early in their journey is this. Love people. You have to. We were not designed to live in confinement. That’s why prison systems use solitary confinement as a form of capital punishment. Human connection is vital for living. In any area of your life, you’re going to have to deal with people. Yes, you’re going to get hurt, disappointed, and rejected. Yes, you’re going to get betrayed. We all at some point have felt the darts of people, whether in our families, at work, EVERYWHERE. The earlier you learn to forgive as quickly as possible, the better off you’ll be. Just remember, the blessing comes from the hand of a person. If you’ve got walls erected around your heart as a protective mechanism, you’re preventing both the good and the bad from getting in. Forgive, learn from your mistakes and keep it moving. You never know, the next person you meet may be the one that truly sees your value and potential. The only way they can see who you truly are is if you allow your love to flow.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would LOVE to collaborate with women who are willing to share their experiences (good and bad) in an effort to build up and encourage others. The WOW movement will definitely be a force! We intend to uplift and supply all the tools necessary for women to be victorious in every area of their lives. Topics such as, Purpose, Wisdom, Wealth/Substance, Faith, Power, and Influence will be discussed. I want women who are fearless, bold, giving, and loving. I want women who say, “Not on my watch” when they hear of someone who’s going through something they’ve been delivered from, and have the courage to snatch that person out of their despair into VICTORY! That’s what I want. I want some ride or die women that say, “Come hell or high water, we’re going to be successful, beautiful, loving, intelligent, and victorious!” I want women to contact me who are unapologetically blessed and experiencing dominion in their area of gifting. They don’t have to be perfect. They don’t have to have a degree. But they do have to have this… LOVE. Love conquers all! If we can love together, we can rule together. I want women who are ready to go higher and are WILLING to bring others up with them who are ready to take the leap. Are you ready!!! I know I am!! Let’s partner together! Please follow me on instagram “Fashioned4Dominion” and DM me any inquiries. I look forward to connecting with you!
