We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robyn Miller Brecker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robyn below.
Robyn , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I started following my intuition and listening to the “whispers” at a young age…although I had NO idea that I was actually doing such a thing. LOL.
I was twelve-years-old when my father suddenly passed away suddenly. My mom, my sister and I had to figure out our new normal. Oprah became our constant in our home. In high school, I had what I now know was a lucid dream where I saw myself working for Oprah — it was so real that it motivated me to actually make that happen! I wanted to create programming that would inspire people. The internet didn’t exist then, so I was laser focused on Writing + TV production.
And right after I graduated college, the internet was born. While of course I applied to work for Oprah, my job hadn’t been invented yet! I briefly worked in local news and then was fortunate enough to help launch Noggin, the first on-air/online TV network, which was the baby of Nickelodeon and PBS. I learned so much and a year later when Oprah was looking for people with TV + Digital experience to launch Oprah.com…I was ready.
From there, I had the honor and privilege to work with almost every person that came through our doors, including renown spiritual teachers and thought leaders of our time. I was fulfilled in creating programming that inspired millions, while also evolving on my own soul journey. And to this day, as I grow and learn, I want to share it with as many people as possible, so that they can live their most purposeful lives.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
During my almost twenty years at Harpo and OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, I had the opportunity to work on projects that not only changed the lives of all of those watching or experiencing them, but these projects changed my own life. Two experiences were integral in leading me to where I am today.
1. I had the honor of working with Spiritual Teacher and Author Eckhart Tolle and Omega Institute Co-Founder and Author Elizabeth Lesser on taking Eckhart’s book, “A New Earth” and creating a 10-week webcast and podcast. The experience gave me a whole new perspective on being present, becoming aware of my thoughts and the ego. With this understanding, life became more fulfilling and magical…almost immediately.
And then I met a Spiritual Medium who changed my life yet again. Rebecca Rosen reconnected me with my father 23 years after he passed away. After my initial reading with Rebecca I knew without a doubt that we never really die. We are energy and the energy changes form. Once that door was open, I began exploring soul work and energy work on a whole other level.
I continued to listen to the “whispers” or my inner voice…and in 2018 I could feel my soul telling me that it was time to make a major career change, yet I had no idea what my next job would be.
I had begun working on a project with a team from Discovery Networks who were partners with OWN — I thought maybe that was why I was still in my position at OWN.
At the same time, I decided to start working on a next chapter type of plan. I turned to another Spiritual Medium, Lisa Nitzkin, to potentially receive guidance for my next steps. What I couldn’t have predicted is that I would end up having several key synchronistic spiritual experiences that helped to reveal my path forward and give me the confidence to embark on a brand new journey.
In addition to the planned reading with Lisa, I met a psychic unexpectedly that same week, a shamanic practitioner and energy alchemist (Sheryl Netzky) a few weeks later, an astrologer (Stevie Calista), as well as another medium and more practitioners that would all end up telling me similar messages, themes, words, and timing in my life. These people didn’t know each other and only one knew me prior. I couldn’t believe it — and as I began to do soul and energetic work with Sheryl…and took an intuition and mediumship class with Lisa — life flowed and felt different. I discovered my own abilities to connect with the other side, as well as energy and I became even better attuned with my purpose for inspiring and helping others transform their own lives.
When the project with Discovery didn’t go forward, I had my backup plan in place and I became more vocal at work with my plan — which initially was to create a show where I would take people at a crossroads and give them the same experience that I just had, so they too could have a plan and live with purpose and connection to their soul.
I left OWN by the beginning of 2019 and have been working on Seeking Center ever since. I have been meeting and vetting practitioners and products for the last five years. I’ve been honing my own intuitive and energy practitioner skills and guiding hundreds of people. I am in the doing of making this practices and learnings mainstream and relatable in the way that we were able to take Eckhart Tolle to the masses.
I launched the Seeking Center: The Podcast in 2020 and theseekingcenter.com in 2023. Seeking Center is now a media company focused on spirituality and wellness to inspire and transform millions of lives and growing every week. We are creating programming that inspires and then provides the platform so that people can have the experiences, learn more, buy the products, find their community and more. There is so much to come in the very near future!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Listen to Your Inner Voice + See the Signs
When you get an inspired thought that comes out of nowhere…don’t dismiss it. Write it down. And pay attention to what makes you happy. What could you do all day and never get tired or bored?! Is there something that you think about all of the time because you “want” to? What is it?! That’s a clue for you right there. Becoming aware of these cues and signs in your life is key. You may even receive actual signs. For instance if you hear the name of a specific company by chance…and then you hear that name of a company from a friend the next day — that’s a sign. Check out that company. Instead of a company, that could be a person you’re supposed to meet that can act as a catalyst for your next “big” thing. The bottom line is — pay attention. The “whispers” come in so many forms. Don’t ignore them.
2. Follow Your Feeling
You are your own compass. When you meet someone you get a gut feeling. Trust it. When you are doing a specific task, it makes you feel a specific way. If that feeling is one of excitement and mostly joy…you are in alignment. If whatever you are doing continually drains you — that’s a signal that you need to make a change. Pay attention to your own inner compass, it will always lead you in the right direction.
3. Do the Work
I’m all for visualizing, following the feeling, planning and so on…and I also do the work. I have tremendous integrity in everything that I do. I’m the kind of person that will go above and beyond to get something done. I will find the right people to accomplish a project because it takes a village — and it’s important to know your own strengths and find others to complement you. Setting the intention, doing the research, and then meeting deadline is imperative. I’m someone who will do whatever it takes to get something done WELL. I always ask people, would you hire you? And my answer to that question is, “hell, yes!!”
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
I have to say — there are so many answers to this question…and along with my biological parents, I’ve been blessed to also have bonus parents in my Aunt and Uncle, who took on parental roles after my father passed away.
I think the answer that may surprise most people is that I now understand why my father passed away when I was so young. As horrible, heartbreaking and tragic as it all was to live through…I now see the broader reason and the integration into my overall life plan. I most likely wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today…which I know is so aligned with my purpose. I believe my dad and I had a pact before we ever came into this lifetime. (I know, I know. Many people will think this sounds cray cray and super “woo!”) I was equipped to handle such a devastating loss and it led me to working for Oprah and eventually to seek even further. I now have a connection with my dad on the other side. While I miss his physical presence, he is a part of my daily life as a guide. I receive messages and signs from him every day. And I get to bring out these connections for other people — which is an honor and gift in my life.
I will also add that between my mother, aunt and uncle — they have always supported and encouraged me in every possible way. They saw my potential and helped pave the way for me to receive an excellent education and take advantage of opportunities that may not have been possible without them. They also walked the walk. They modeled tremendous work ethic and taught me the importance of being impeccable with my word.
I’m forever grateful to all of them!
