Meet Heather Basile

We were lucky to catch up with Heather Basile recently and have shared our conversation below.

Heather, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

My optimism largely stems from my philosophy of living without judgment. I believe that the majority of situations we find ourselves in are not inherently good or bad; rather, it’s the perspective through which we view them that assigns these values. By recognizing that the lens through which we see the world shapes our experiences, I constantly try to adjust this lens to see possibilities, opportunities, and solutions rather than set-backs and limitations. This approach not only keeps me optimistic but also empowers me to handle challenges more constructively, knowing that my attitude is one of the few things I truly have control over.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

So much has happened and changed since I started the Mojave Moon Apothecary brand almost 4 years ago. Most notably, opening our flagship store at the end of 2023 in the 29 Palms Historic Plaza, just a few minutes outside the North Entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. We are thrilled to be at the heart of what was once the bustling center of Twentynine Palms’ social and economic life. Our presence here is part of a larger effort to revitalize this historic area, bringing new energy and a fresh spirit to the community which has given us so much.

With this stand alone location, we were able to expand our offerings beyond just our own Mojave Moon Apothecary line to include a wide variety of crystals, a bulk herbal apothecary, and some amazing one-of-a-kind finds made by artisans from all over the world. While we do offer a selection of metaphysical products, the core of our store isn’t centered on the esoteric. Instead, we focus on fostering a deep connection to the natural world and nurturing one’s inner self. Our space is truly designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all, regardless of one’s spiritual beliefs or practices. We invite everyone who steps through our door to explore, connect, and discover something meaningful.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Empathy. Tenacity. Curiosity.

Don’t be afraid to listen. Don’t be afraid to change. Don’t be afraid to CREATE change. I believe that the only things we truly regret in life are the chances we didn’t take.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

We recently completed our community space and are always looking for new instructors who are passionate about sharing their knowledge on herbalism, health and wellness, astrology, DIY projects, or arts & crafts. We can accommodate up to 6 participants for hands-on classes and up to 8 participants for discussions, interactive sessions, book clubs or meetings.
