Meet Louise Cutler

We were lucky to catch up with Louise Cutler recently and have shared our conversation below.

Louise, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only person of color or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

I chose to embrace my uniqueness and use it as an asset. I have learned over the years to be confident in who I am and to share my passion for creativity and artistic innovation. I seek out those who wish to change the narrative. I speak up, network proactively, pursue continuous learning, and lead by example. I never let being the only one in the room who looks like me change my purpose or mission. I find it to be one of my super powers. It’s called being yourself in every situation. Being the only person who looks like you in a room is not a weakness, it’s an opportunity to network, educate and connect. My voice and perspective matter. Just to note, I am always the only one in the room who looks and acts like me, that is what makes me uniquely me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Well first thank you for the opportunity to share,  I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share a bit about myself and my professional journey with you. Currently, I wear several hats—I’ve recently finished writing a children’s book entitled, “The Ant and The Curious Little Boy.” The first in the series is set to be released sometime next month. It’s a project that’s been months in the making, and I’m incredibly proud of the final result.  As an artist I’m actively working on two new series of paintings in my studio. One series of paintings entitled, “Connection,” explores our humanity as its connection with the earth and the effect of this relationship. I’ve also  just released a new single on Spotify and Apple music entitled, “Just Say Hello.” It is about not being afraid to make eye contact with people and just saying hello, creating connection. I am hoping to finish a full album sometime this summer.

What’s next: I will be starting work on the next title in my Curious Little Boy series Of Children’s Books. You can find out more by subscribing to my website, “Curious Boy Books.com.” where I will be exploring new themes and ideas that inspire young readers. I have plans to further develop my painting series as well as curating a few exhibits in 2025 in some of our local museums. As an artist, experimenting with different styles and mediums to bring my visions to life is what keeps my work relevant for the times. And in the realm of music, I aspire to create more songs that resonate with listeners and perhaps even explore opportunities for performances.

My journey as a creative has been a winding one, filled with twists and turns that have ultimately led me to where I am today. I have always been drawn to art and creativity in various forms. As a child I always knew art would be a part of my life. Over the years, I’ve pursued my passion through writing, visual arts, and music, and exploring different mediums to express my ideas and connect with audiences. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with talented individuals, learn from mentors, and overcome challenges that have helped shape me both personally and professionally.

What drives me as a creative is the opportunity to inspire and engage others through my work. Whether it’s through the pages of a children’s book, the strokes of a paintbrush, or the lyrics of a song, I’m passionate about creating meaningful experiences that resonate with people of all ages. The joy of sparking imagination and curiosity in young minds, and older ones, the power of visual creative narrative to evoke emotions, and the universal language of music—all of these elements fuel my creative spirit and motivate me to continue pushing the boundaries of my craft. As a creative individual, I’m passionate about using my God given talents to make a positive impact and inspire others. Whether it’s through storytelling, visual arts, or music, I’m dedicated to continuing my journey of creative exploration and growth.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

In my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have been most impactful for me are:  Embracing who you are created to be,  Creativity using your Imagination, Versatility :

Before you do anything, pursue anything, change anything, you must know who and why you were created. Understanding one’s purpose is the beginning of your journey and everything else grows from this perspective. Why am I here? We all have a purpose.

Curiosity has been instrumental in driving my exploration of various creative pursuits and pushing me to continuously seek out new experiences and knowledge.

Embracing a learning mindset has allowed me to approach challenges with openness and humility, always seeking opportunities for growth and improvement.

Creativity and Imagination:

Creativity is undoubtedly one of the most crucial qualities for success in the creative world. It involves sometimes thinking outside the box, generating original ideas, and finding innovative solutions to problems.

Imagination goes hand in hand with creativity, allowing you to envision worlds, characters, and narratives that captivate and inspire your audience.

In the context of children’s books, art projects, and music, creativity and imagination are essential for crafting engaging stories, visually striking artwork, and memorable songs that resonate with your target audience.

Versatility :

The creative world is dynamic and constantly evolving, requiring individuals to be versatile and adaptable to new trends, technologies, and challenges.

Versatility allows you to explore different mediums, styles, and genres, expanding your creative repertoire and reaching a broader audience.

Adaptability enables you to pivot and adjust your approach in response to feedback, market demands, or changing circumstances, ensuring continued relevance and success in your creative endeavors.

My advice for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these skills is. stay focused on your goals, be teachable, place yourself around people that inspire you, know there is always room for growth so never stop learning.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

Throughout my journey, several individuals have been instrumental in helping me overcome challenges and develop the essential skills, qualities, and knowledge needed for success. Among them, there are a few key groups: Mentors and Role Models:

Mentors and role models have provided invaluable guidance, advice, and encouragement at various stages of my journey.

Peers and Collaborators:

Peers and collaborators have been essential in fostering a sense of community, camaraderie, and mutual support.

Collaborating with fellow creatives has provided opportunities for learning, growth, and creative exchange.

Supportive Friends and Family:

Friends and family have been a constant source of encouragement, understanding, and emotional support throughout my journey.

Each of these groups has played a unique and invaluable role in my personal and professional development, helping me overcome challenges, build essential skills, and grow as a creative individual. Their support, guidance, and encouragement have been indispensable on my journey toward success. However, I could do nothing without the Lord who has guided me throughout my incredible journey of Creative Expression.
