Meet Rene Mycorn

We recently connected with Rene Mycorn and have shared our conversation below.

Rene, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
From the first kick of a soccer ball to the grand slam in the softball game, sports have been more than just a pastime for me—they’ve been a crucible for personal growth and self-discovery. As a child, I found solace and excitement in the world of sports, where the thrill of competition and the camaraderie of being on a team ignited a flame within me.

Being part of a team was transformative, as it provided a sense of belonging and purpose. Together, we braved the highs and lows of competition, celebrating victories and lifting each other up in moments of defeat. Through the bonds forged on the field or court, I learned the value of teamwork, resilience, and collective effort.

Pushing myself towards my goals became a driving force in my journey. Whether it was mastering a new skill or surpassing personal records, each milestone fueled my sense of accomplishment and self-worth. Despite encountering setbacks and moments of self-doubt, I refused to let obstacles define me. Through resilience and determination, I learned to embrace failure as a stepping stone towards success.

Sports have shaped the very essence of who I am, instilling in me a sense of confidence and self-esteem that transcends the boundaries of the playing field. As I journey forward, I carry with me the lessons learned—the enduring legacy of a journey marked by growth, perseverance, and triumph.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge stand out as most impactful:

Resilience: The ability to bounce back from setbacks and adversity was crucial in my journey. Whether facing defeat in my practice or encountering personal challenges, resilience allowed me to persevere and keep moving forward .Advice: To develop resilience, it’s important to embrace failure as a natural part of the learning process. Instead of viewing setbacks as roadblocks, see them as opportunities for growth. Cultivate a positive mindset, practice self-care, and surround yourself with a supportive community that encourages resilience.
Self-Belief: Believing in myself and my abilities was instrumental in overcoming obstacles and achieving my goals. Confidence in my skills empowered me to push past doubts and pursue success with determination. Advice: Building self-belief starts with challenging negative self-talk and cultivating a mindset of self-compassion. Set realistic goals and celebrate small victories along the way. Surround yourself with positive influences and seek out mentors who can offer guidance and encouragement.
Continuous Learning: A willingness to learn and adapt was essential for growth and improvement. Whether refining techniques on the field or expanding my knowledge off the court, embracing lifelong learning allowed me to evolve and excel. Advice: Stay curious and open-minded, seeking out opportunities for growth and development. Embrace challenges as chances to learn and expand your skill set. Invest time in self-reflection and seek feedback from coaches, peers, and mentors to identify areas for improvement.
For those early in their journey:

Embrace the Process: Understand that success is not always linear and that setbacks are part of the journey. Trust in your abilities and stay committed to your goals, even when progress seems slow.
Build a Support Network: Surround yourself with people who believe in you and your potential. Seek out mentors, coaches, and peers who can offer guidance, encouragement, and support along the way.
Stay Focused and Flexible: Define your goals and priorities, but remain adaptable to changes and opportunities that may arise. Stay focused on your long-term vision while remaining flexible in your approach to achieving it.

By cultivating resilience, self-belief, and a commitment to continuous learning, individuals can navigate their journey with confidence, purpose, and resilience.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I find it helpful to step back and take a moment to regroup. Here are some strategies and advice that I often follow:

Take Deep Breaths: Deep breathing can help calm the nervous system and reduce feelings of stress and overwhelm. Take slow, deep breaths, focusing on the sensation of air entering and leaving your body.

Take a Walk: Walking is regulating for the body and I often find myself walking every day to ground myself.

Practice Mindfulness: Mindfulness techniques, such as meditation or grounding exercises, can help bring your attention back to the present moment and reduce feelings of overwhelm. Focus on your senses or engage in a brief body scan to help center yourself.

Prioritize Tasks: Break down your tasks into smaller, more manageable steps and prioritize them based on importance and urgency. Focus on tackling one task at a time rather than trying to do everything at once.

Reach Out for Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out to friends, family, or trusted colleagues for support. Sometimes, simply talking about what’s causing overwhelm can help alleviate some of the stress.

Set Boundaries: Learn to recognize your limits and set boundaries to protect your mental and emotional well-being. It’s okay to say no to additional commitments or to delegate tasks when feeling overwhelmed.

Engage in Self-Care: Engage in activities that help you relax and recharge, such as exercise, spending time in nature, reading, or listening to music. Taking care of yourself is essential for managing feelings of overwhelm.
