We were lucky to catch up with Adrienne Maye recently and have shared our conversation below.
Adrienne , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I have found my purpose throughout the years in a variety of ways. My mom always taught me to be strong, independent, resilient and not to depend on others for what I desired out of life. This has propelled me to always try and be the best version of myself. Throughout life it has taught me, and I continue to learn that I never want to be comfortable in a position that does not cause me to continue to grow and learn. Life should be a continuous learning experience with new opportunities to excel and become exposed to greater heights. I am constantly amazed at how being eager to learn, flexible to learning and open to what is next will broaden my horizons and allow me to stretch my thinking.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the Owner of Moving Forward with Diabetes Management (MFDM), LLC. We provide Prediabetes Lifestyle Management Education. Over 100 million Adults are currently diagnosed with prediabetes, a medical condition where your blood sugar levels are elevated but not high enough to be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. At MFDM we have created an online course where participants can learn at their own pace and receive the education and information needed to promote a healthier lifestyle and receive the information in a way that is not filled with medical jargon. The course also has additional bonuses including Blood pressure trackers, Meal Planners, Goal Setting Tools, Weight Tracker and much more.
I started my business because of being a Registered Nurse for over 20 years and a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). I have seen thousands of patients live with and be affected by the devastating effects of diabetes but an even greater matter that I saw was additional educational needs of my patients. I have had several family members affected by diabetes and wanted to make a positive impact on education and breaking down the information where people could understand it and manage their lives.
We offer Take Charge and Balance Online Prediabetes Lifestyle Program, Our eBooks including the Prediabetes Power Pack provides wise and practical eating tips, Empowered Moves delivers practical tips to initiate your exercise routine while addressing physical, mental, and emotional barriers, guiding you towards a life of enhanced health and empowerment and my book, Beating the Sugar B.E.A.S.T.™ Lifestyle Management for People of Color Living with Diabetes, a step-by-step process that shares five different topics that are often barriers for people managing their diabetes.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that I feel have been most impactful during and continues to be along my journey are resilience, learning to listen to my gut and surrounding myself with people smarter than me 😊😊
I feel that anytime life blows a storm your way this is the time to hold on and not let go. Often, your breakthrough to the next big opportunity is around the corner. Resiliency is necessary in life but definitely in your entrepreneurial journey.
Listening to my gut means I listen to my intuitions and if it does not feel right-I pass. I was once told “All money is not Good Money.” When you are in business it is imperative to listen to what feels right within your spirit and follow that. I have learned that this will save me a lot of time, heartache, and frustration down the line.
Last but not least-I know many of us have heard this-If I am the smartest person in the room, it is time to find another room. I LOVE to be surrounded by greatness. We all are here to learn from one another and that is what I strive to do each day.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client would be someone that has a prediabetes diagnosis looking to make lifestyle changes whether it be weight loss, meal planning, portion control or understanding the lab values that they have received from their medical provider.
Our programs are set up to provide a self-paced learning course and provide goal setting, tracking and logs to measure progress such as sleep logs, water trackers and so much more. We also offer VIP 1:1 Coaching. Our goal is to provide the education in a clear, concise way without medical jargon so that participants are able to understand and manage their healthcare needs.
