Meet Destiny Renee

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Destiny Renee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Destiny below.

Destiny, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I love answering this question! Being a human being is literally a miracle of creation and we are the ultimate creators. So I do my best to remain in a conscious creative state on a daily basis. Simply, everything is art and I am in charge of designing my life. Outside of maintaining an artistic mindset I use educating students as a way of keeping an active imagination. They are constantly challenging me to think outside of the box in order to engage them. It also helps to live in a culturally rich city such as Atlanta. If I need some inspiration there are a plethora of theatres producing great work, concerts, festivals, museum exhibits and community events readily available to me. I don’t take that access for granted!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an artist. I’ve been in love with performing since I was a little girl forced to take ballet lessons, like most little girls were in the 90’s. I was a terrible dancer but I loved being onstage! There was something magical about connecting with an audience, about evoking emotion, especially joy. I am a multifaceted creative with a focus in acting, writing poetry and educating young artists. But I also love producing new work, directing, designing gorgeous gowns and painting! Currently my sights are set on successfully working as an actress in Atlanta’s amazing film industry. It’s time for the world to know the name Destiny Renee.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Oh wow this is a tough question, everyone’s journey is different and what works for me may not be the route best suited for someone else.

First and foremost, staying true to yourself is a huge key to success, but in order to do that you must do the hard work of getting to know yourself. I’ve always admired radically authentic people who bravely charted their own path. Next would be to create a daily journaling and meditative practice. It’s a great way to document your growth, manifest your desires and stay connected to how you are feeling as you navigate life’s ups and downs. Lastly, surround yourself with good people! People who see you as magnificent, challenge and motivate you to reach for the stars. Maintaining healthy relationships is imperative on so many levels.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
This question is right on time! Almost 12 months ago I took a spiritual trip to New Orleans, a very special city that I do my best to visit often. I went there seeking confirmation that I was on the right track with my career among other things. What I learned was that I lacked the faith in myself that I had been easily portraying on the surface. I had to dig deeper to really believe that I deserved the life that I’ve imagined for myself. The life that I’ve been working towards for so many years. The foundations have already been laid, all I have to do is take flight.
