Meet Julio Silva

We recently connected with Julio Silva and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Julio, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
It’s rooted in the journey I embarked on when I moved to the U.S from Venezuela eight years ago. Despite the initial struggles of adjusting to a new environment, I refused to give up. The encouragement from loved ones and the desire to succeed in my career as a designer kept me going. Every obstacle I faced only made me more determined to achieve my goals. So, every design I produce is a testament to my resilience, demonstrating that I can overcome any obstacle in my path.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Absolutely, right now I’m deeply invested in my artistic career as a designer here in Los Angeles. What excites me most about this profession is the ability to transform ideas into visual stories that resonate with people on a profound level. Whether it’s crafting a logo that captures the essence of a brand or designing a website that immerses users in a unique digital experience, every project is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

In addition, I’m currently working on expanding my portfolio to include more immersive and interactive design experiences. With advancements in technology opening up new possibilities, I’m eager to explore innovative ways to push the boundaries of traditional graphic design and create experiences that captivate audiences in exciting new ways.

Overall, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion in this vibrant and dynamic city, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities have been particularly impactful: resilience, adaptability, and creativity.

Resilience has been essential in navigating the challenges and setbacks that inevitably arise when pursuing a career in a competitive field like graphic design. It’s about bouncing back from failures, staying determined in the face of adversity, and never losing sight of your goals.

Adaptability is another crucial skill, especially when transitioning to a new environment or facing changes in the industry. Being able to embrace new technologies, trends, and ways of working has allowed me to stay relevant and thrive in an ever-evolving landscape.

Of course, creativity lies at the heart of what I do. It’s about thinking outside the box, pushing boundaries, and bringing fresh perspectives to every project. Cultivating creativity involves staying curious, exploring different artistic mediums, and never being afraid to experiment and take risks.

For those early in their journey, my advice is to embrace these qualities and actively work on developing them

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I turn to nature, camping, and my motorcycle for solace and rejuvenation. There’s something incredibly grounding about immersing myself in the great outdoors, surrounded by towering trees, vast expanses of wilderness, and the hum of my motorcycle beneath me.

One of my favorite ways to decompress is to escape on a camping trip, where I can disconnect from the chaos of everyday life and reconnect with the simplicity and beauty of nature. Whether it’s pitching a tent by a tranquil lake or setting up camp in the rugged mountains, being in nature has a way of putting things into perspective and soothing my soul.
