We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jaeson Frederique. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jaeson below.
Jaeson, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from a few different places and people. First, I feel like I have to work hard to honor the blessing God has given me with my creative abilities and vision. Second, my parents and family have instilled in me a work-hard/play-hard mentality for as long as I can remember and I know that if I grind and put in the work now, I’ll be set later in life and be able to give back and take care of them for everything they have done for me as well as take care of my own family one day, and enjoy everything life has to offer while being financially comfortable. Third, I compete with myself. I have a me vs. me mindset, my only opponent/competition is myself and I know that if I aim to be at least one percent better than the day before, greatness is sure to come. Finally, a lot of people are rooting for me and believe in me. I feel like if I don’t push myself and work hard then I am letting them down. You never know who you are inspiring or motivating by working hard and not giving up.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a freelance videographer and photographer. I mainly specialize in sports media, creating hype videos and highlight reels for players, teams, and sports organizations. The part I enjoy most about sports media and freelance videography is being able to help underrated athletes, sports programs, non-profit organizations, small businesses, etc, receive the recognition they deserve. As a former athlete, I know how a bad game, practice, or recovering from an injury can affect an athlete’s confidence in their skills, and sometimes all they need is to physically see themselves playing to regain it all back. There are also a lot of small businesses and programs that don’t get the attention and awareness they deserve, so being able to use my creative abilities to help others has always been the best part for me. I am excited about new projects set to release soon and expanding to different types of videography and photography besides sports and venturing out to try new things.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I think the three most important qualities that have helped me with my journey have been having an open mind, always trying to learn new things/being willing to learn from anyone, and not being afraid to network and connect with other creatives regardless of their creative field.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one obstacle/challenge I am currently facing is perfectionism. Yes, I feel like it’s important to take your work serious and put your best foot forward but we can’t be perfect. There is no such thing as a perfect video or picture because there is always things we can do better. Chasing after perfection can also be very draining and has personally caused me to not finish projects and even worse, not even start. I think the main solution is to just simply “do” whatever it is that you are trying to do or create whatever it is you are trying to create and gain the experience from it whether it be good or bad, learn from it and try and do better the next time.
