We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jess Bray a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jess, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
In today’s world, we get so caught in survival mode that we forget our natural state is to thrive. In my life, I’ve found that passion leads to purpose, but few of us afford ourselves the pleasure. The things that light us up and pull at our heartstrings to take action are seeds planted in us for a reason.
I was born with a deep passion for freedom, a call to blaze trails, and a great desire to help others live their dreams. I built a life on my terms, following my heart, to live my passions, with my family by my side, and I won’t accept anything less.
In 2022, my husband and I took the leap on a long held dream. We established our farm and gardens in a ‘new to us’ community, helped start and supply a local farmer’s market, and added pigs, poultry and dairy, all while raising and unschooling our awesome kids! We built a community supplied and supported farm General Store, and had our grand opening on our first year farm anniversary.
We get asked a lot about this journey we’re on. It feels like an awakening to a better way is finally coming to light and catching. There’s an air of acceptance that no one is coming to save us, and we must be the change we wish to see in the world.
This life we’re living did not happen overnight, nor did it happen only over the past year. We built it with many years of collective experience. It takes a lot of heart and bravery, but isn’t this precious life we’ve been given worth the leap of faith?
Life doesn’t happen to you. It happens for you. You can be the clay, or you can be the hands. The only thing standing in between you, your dreams and your purpose are the choices you make.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
If you wait until you’re “ready,” you’ll never begin. Don’t let your dreams die in the waiting place.
I’m taking a giant leap of faith to share the knowledge I’ve gained as a born entrepreneur, having built multiple companies and now… living, loving, and learning as a family with the ultimate freedom of an on-farm business within our first year.
❓️ Do you want the freedom to spend more precious time with your family?
❓️ Do you wish you didn’t have to leave your family to make a living and a difference in the world?
❓️ Do you want to help build a strong community where you live?
❓️ Would you like to build a business or shift your current business to one that is community supplied and supported?
❓️ Would you like to help rebuild the American supply chain?
If you said yes to any of the questions above, then you’re going to want to visit our website at bluemountainfarmok.com to sign up for our newsletter. You’ll be the first to know when our BMF Course, “Roots to Rise”, currently in its beta stage, is released to the world.
Let’s get those dreams off the back burner!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Imagination, Determination and Resilience
My journey has always been guided first by a ripe imagination. Imagination springs from the desires of the heart. It’s like a muscle. The more we allow our minds to daydream, the greater the flow.
When I begin to feel stuck in this area, it’s because I’m not allowing myself enough leisure time to be still or to play. Play is essential at any age to the creative process.
What is imagination and vision without action? This is where determination kicks in. Through focused determination, we give our visions wings to fly. When we are ripe with imagination, determination comes naturally.
Because the road is never without pitfalls, this is where resilience comes in. Our ability to pick ourselves back up, learn the lessons, pivot and continue onward in the direction of our dreams is perhaps the most important skill of all.
Life will give us plenty of practice in developing this crucial skill, and if we take these pitfalls as an opportunity to develop character and sharpen our skillset, the road becomes easier to navigate over time.
