We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Whitney Frost. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Whitney below.
Hi Whitney, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My purpose comes from my own interpersonal experience with these very struggles that our clients face. I gave birth to my first child in 2015 and found myself, a trained clinician, navigating Postpartum Depression with great difficulty and very limited resources to turn to. I was fortunate to have health insurance and resources to find care, but the resources were lacking for mothers, parents, and birthing people in my position. My OB/GYN did not screen me or even talk to me about Postpartum Depression before or after my delivery, so I was left to navigate the feelings and diagnosis on my own. I knew that if I was left in that position, that many others must be in that position but were probably having a lot harder of a time navigating finding resources, care, and understanding what was going on. That was a pivotal time for me in understanding that I had to do better for moms, birthing people, and families in my community.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a mom, wife, therapist, business owner, author, mental health advocate, and champion for policy change for moms in the US, and serial entrepreneur. I’m always looking for new ways to use my skills to invest into the community to spark change and impact my community locally and at large. I have a heart for serving my community and the sky is the limit in my mind. In the back of my mind, I am mindful of the fact that I have two little girls that are watching me, watching how I impact others and my community, and how I handle the challenges in front of me.
I am the owner and founder of The Rylie Center for Hope and Healing. We are Colorado’s largest perinatal collective. The Rylie Center for Hope and Healing focuses on nurturing hope and wellness for growing families by providing mental and physical wellness services, specializing in perinatal and postpartum families. The Rylie Center for Hope and Healing is the first of its kind in the country to offer wrap-around care for individuals and families. We partner with various non-profits locally and nationally to make sure that we are able to provide care to individuals and families without cost being a barrier, whether that is mental health services or physical health services.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Curiosity, motivation, and an open mind. I am always learning new things from my peers and experts in the community that have information and knowledge in realms that I am not an expert in that is truly invaluable. I am a forever student and love learning, adopting that mentality has truly been essential in order to stay on top of changing policy, laws, and regulations within my field and business practices but also in order to continue to evolve as a clinician. Having a curious mind and hunger for knowledge keeps me able to formulate new ideas and find new ways to serve and impact my community in a meaningful and innovative way.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
The ideal client for The Rylie Center for Hope and Healing is anyone, female/male/non-binary/trans, that identifies as a parent or is on the journey to becoming a parent, who is in need mental health or physical health support as they navigate the matrescense or patrescense journey.
