Meet Brandon Bates

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandon Bates. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Brandon, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Imagine playing basketball or any sport from the time you can remember up until your last few years of Highschool. Not really understanding the true equity in hard work because I was very talented, I ended up being out worked by my peers. It wasn’t until it was time to go to college and I realized I hadn’t put in the work long enough to be able to compete with folks just a year ahead of me. It broke my heart but I was able to build a new one . What happened is I realized I wouldn’t be playing basketball but I would be helping people from now on just like an assist. I also would never be out worked again. Since then I’ve been told multiple times I am the hardest working person that they have ever laid eyes on!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Positive Food Only. We focus on taking local produce that typically goes to waste as it’s grown in larger amounts, and selling it to restaurants in residence in the hyper local community, we have a knack for growing what people actually need upon request if the following season. We are most excited about contributing to climate change, bringing the food deprivation gap, and creating jobs that give people more of their time back. Positive Food Only is all about change in the workforce development field and food distribution avenue. We are dedicated truly to the community that birthed this idea that is S.Phnx.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most important things, I did not know. I was addicted to drugs so MODERATION /Healing was the first quality/skill I needed to obtain.
The second was financial appitude, as it relates budgeting and for sure investments like FHA opportunities or saving money for a rainy day.
The third area of knowledge would have to be community engagement. You can not create successful organization or community without understanding the people on your team and the audience you plan to serve.
Learning these life hacks through TigerMountain Foundation paved the way for myself and many others like myself in similar situations.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Collaboration is huge to expansion and the development of an orgs brain and networking range. I am highly interested in working with investors that understand the working class man who has the inspirations of the upper class. Simply put Positive Food Only is an investor in the community by taking pennies and turning it into hundreds of dollars at a time and also foreshadowing the social capitalism at stake with a figure presenting change by way of a food source and financial insensitive, two main keys in building community. After seeing the power of networking we are fully invested in shaking hands and showing what we have to offer in person whether it be visiting a 20 acre farm or attending a workshop where one can learn how to grow food, resell food, store, and more.
