Meet Abbie Knights

We were lucky to catch up with Abbie Knights recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Abbie , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I was raised by a single Mom, growing up I watched her work three to four jobs, seven days a week, and not once did she ever complain. It was always about doing what was necessary, not making excuses. I remember one winter we had no place to live, so we slept on the floor in sleeping bags, at the law office she worked, I remember laying next to her on the floor thinking, I had to find a way to become successful one day so that we never had to be in that situation again. Most, say I work too much, but dreams never sleep and they say “the hustle is always sold separately”. My Mom is the most resilient person I’ve ever known, not only did I get my work ethic from her, but she continues to be my greatest inspiration everyday.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am the host of my show, “The Abbie Knights Show”, we are a mixed-topic, positive format show, featuring celebrity interviews and the top 10 hottest songs in the country. Dubbing ourselves “the best weekend party in the city”! I am joined by my amazing co-hosts, DJ Ria, Jenny Ruby, and DJ Cadence, who is also our show mix DJ. We each represent a variety of cultures and ethnicities with immense pride, while always remaining connected to our roots and true to our individuality. We’ve recently hit an exciting milestone, averaging 100,000 listeners per show! Retired pro NFL athlete Crezdon “Crez B” Butler has also joined our #taksfam as our “SPORTS TAK” co-host, where he’ll be covering the latest sports news and highlights, and taking a dive into the infamous “locker room talk”. Our show is available on all “listen on demand” platforms including, iHeart Radio, Pandora, Spotify and many others.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The entertainment industry is most definitely not for the faint of heart. Resilience, determination, and integrity, have been fundamental parts of my journey. In a business like this, your morals and values will be tested and questioned, and receiving countless rejections will leave you feeling completely discouraged, but then that focus and determination kicks in as a reminder that out of 1,000 “no’s” it only takes one “yes”. As my grandma used to always say “la cabeza en Cielo y los pies en el suelo” [feet on the ground and head in the sky].

What most don’t know is that I started my journey in this industry as an artist, and through my experiences, I realized how little support there was for independent creatives in this space.
