Meet Sydney Brett

We recently connected with Sydney Brett and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Sydney with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
At a young age, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. Because of my dyslexia, I always had to put extra effort in especially when it came to my schoolwork.

My strong work ethic comes from having dyslexia. I never wanted the stereotypes and what other people have to say define me as a person. Which is why I have made it my mission to always give everything I do 110%.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I currently work full-time as a PR and marketing assistant for a women’s evening where company! I have always loved Fashion and I am very grateful I was able to turn it into a career right after college graduation.

Besides my full-time job in the fashion industry, I am the founder of a nonprofit organization called Stronger Than You Think. After being bullied because of having dyslexia, I wanted to take a negative experience and turn it into something positive, which is how Stronger Than You Think was born. My nonprofit provides today’s youth with the tools they need to be confident and who they are while teaching kindness to themselves and others. My organization believes everyone has the right to be respected who they are.

Stronger Than You Think provides many things. We provide workshops for students, parents and educators, empowerment workshops, a mentorship program and so much more.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Some advice of mine would be to make sure you believe in your mission or ideas as well as believing in yourself. Be prepared to put in the work, in order to see results make sure you are determined to get things done!

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Throughout my life, my mom has done many impactful things to help me get to where I am today. One being always believing in me in my ideas that I have for myself and for my nonprofit. My mom is someone that I would bounce ideas off of. My mom has never told me that one of my dreams or goals is too big or unrealistic, and because of that I am able to dream big and realize that the sky is the limit each and every day!
