Meet Anna Yu

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anna Yu. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Anna, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I tend to get stressed out easily but also recover fast because of the support I receive from my friends and family. Some other key ways I cultivate resilience are first having a clear goal and purpose; second, always keeping a positive mindset; third, being able to adapt to changing circumstances; and finally, taking care of my own emotional well-being and maintaining a balance in life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As a Graphic Designer based in the heart of New York City, I specialize in Motion Graphics and Branding projects. With six years of residency in this bustling urban landscape, my journey into the realm of design commenced during my college years and has seamlessly transitioned into a thriving career in the industry.

The vibrant atmosphere of New York City has provided me with a unique perspective on design, offering a wealth of inspiration through art exhibitions and encounters with esteemed professionals in the field. Over time, my design aesthetic has evolved, blending a fondness for minimalism with an exploration of diverse illustration and typography styles. Drawing inspiration from the narratives of individuals around me and the lively tapestry of urban life, I infuse my work with a sense of authenticity and creativity.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As a designer, the three qualities that have significantly influenced my journey are maintaining curiosity, cultivating unwavering confidence in my work, and fostering effective communication with the people I work with and myself. In the early stages of the design journey, it’s crucial to remain curious, embrace the happenings around you with an open mind, and fearlessly delve into new styles. Establishing a clear communication hierarchy ensures coherence, while effectively balancing and evaluating all ideas that emerge.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
For nearly two years, I’ve been fully immersed in the role of a designer. In the beginning, I confined myself to completing assigned projects and delivering them upon completion.

However, over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to directly engage with clients, listening to their visions for projects and collaborating on strategies to achieve our shared goals. This transition marked a significant milestone in my journey as a designer, as it allowed me to step out from behind my laptop and actively engage in meaningful communication with clients.
