We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leandra Witchwood a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Leandra, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
My individuality is driven by my intention. From the beginning I have been driven to offer unique, high-quality products and services. This shows up in my tea blends, my packaging, and the extra touches I offer like individually crafted wax seals on each package. I have found that my customers want an experience to go with their expertly crafted tea blends. An experience filled with whimsy and wonder is what I offer. Sure, it takes more time and energy but in the end it is well worth the effort.

My name is Leandra Witchwood; I am a Modern Witch and small business owner based in South-Central, PA. She founded the Magick Kitchen Blog, which has now evolved into The Magick Kitchen Podcast, co-hosted with Elyse Welles of Seeking Numina. I have written five books on Witchcraft and shadow work aimed at helping aspiring witches get a solid start on their paths. I am passionate about crafting sacred spaces through women’s circles, rituals, and workshops, which I have led at various festivals and events with figures like Silver RavenWolf and Clan An Drumma. As a Celtic Reiki Master and Usui Reiki Master, my energy work involves channeling ancient energies to heal and elevate others. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three things I can say are most impactful on my journey are tenacity, resourcefulness, and awareness. Being tenacious is about tuning into my needs and desires and recognizing that I am worth it. I am worth my desired result. It is recognizing that my needs and desires are mine alone. This means no one has the right to criticize my journey or ambition. Of course, this will not stop those who think they know me better from casting their judgements and imposing their opinions. The truth is that we will be judged no matter what we do, so why not go after the seemingly audacious goal anyway? When you seek to rise above the status quo you have to tap into your tenacious nature and hold her hand every step of the way. We don’t fail until we stop trying. When we experience setbacks, we learn something about what didn’t work, and we can try again.
Through experiencing setbacks and disappointments, I have learned to be very resourceful. I have dug deep to reveal skills I never realized were there all along. When I didn’t think I could be good at sales or selling to others, I learned to speak about my products from the heart allowing others to be inspired by my passion. Being resourceful also helped me become very aware of what is happening within me and around me. Awareness helped me drop further into my authenticity. In this world we are constantly told who to be, how to behave, and what is “right” for us. These messages come of external sources; most have no clue who we really are. I think this is what most people crave. They want something real from someone who has learned to be real. I know I do. I want true connections with others who are authentic.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
YES! I love to collaborate with others. I offer so many ways to connect with others who are also looking to connect with authenticity. I’m an author, podcaster, community curator, and I sell products. I can talk and teach on subjects related to Witchcraft, Herbalism, Shadow Work, The Divine Feminine, and much more. My favorite way to connect is with other female and non-binary business owners who are cheerleaders for those around them. People who understand the value of seeing everyone succeed. Those who know there is PLENTY to go around and there is no need to dominate or overtake others in order for success to be a reality.
