We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robert Sibley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robert below.
Robert, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I embraced the goofiness within me. I’m a big guy and with that comes the inevitable fat jokes. i learned quickly that if i could laugh at myself the laughs of other could not affect me. So I would be the one to do the weird thing. i was the big guy who would take any moment to take of his shirt an do the truffle shuffle. As strange as that may sound it really helped me developed my confidence and i learned a few things along the way.
1. fake it till i you make it. There is some wisdom in acting like you are something before you become it. eventually the new behavior becomes your baseline behavior.
2. putting the spot light on myself allows me not to worry about what others thought of me. i was choosing to take my shirt off and make myself the butt of the joke. I was the one laughing the hardest
3; Being confident not only brings the best out of you but it also tells people to bring their best to you.
I write all of that to say this. i developed my confidence by putting myself out there even when i didn’t feel worthy and when i did it showed me that, that was the only true way to build confidence in the first place.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Lately I’ve just been focusing on my walk with God. he has shown me that he is the only one who provides me with opportunity. So if i want more opportunity i need more of him.
On a more professional note. My brand and my newly establish production company is what has the rest of my attention. last year i started my production company “Black Robot” with the overall goal of telling the stories that god has placed in me. the first step of that has been connected with the creative community in Dallas. So lately I have been shooting music and performance videos for local artist. Doing a lot of photography for local models in the area and working with a apparel brand called “Smile god loves you”
Building connections and finding the right people to add to my time is the move currently
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Slow motion is better than no motion 2. I am worthy
3. living life is part of the process
The best advice i can give someone is to keep going. even if you are taking baby steps towards your goals those steps are important. I want people to know that they are worthy of love and your life has value and finally and finally i want you to know that living life is pat of the process. in todays hustle culture we can feel like we are not doing enough if we are not making some huge breakthrough in our goals but sometimes the mission of the day is to go to work, it is to take your kids to school, it is to rest. we are all on our own journey and as long as you take that daily step you’ll get to where you need to go
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I need people who have a passion to get projects done. I need people who want to be apart of a team and work towards a bigger goal together. no matter what your creative discipline is lets work together and see what we can create.
