Meet Dani La Barrie

We recently connected with Dani La Barrie and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dani, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?

Self care is more than massages, getting my nails done, and other things that people commonly think of. I am a believer in physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Similarly, I believe in taking care of ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Self care includes boundaries (not saying ‘yes’ to everything), being more selective with who I spend my time and energy with, and making sure I allow myself time to be bored, to name a few. These are just a few significant practices that have impacted my effectiveness. It’s helped me self-preserve and show up fully, pouring energy into areas that have a better return on investment in life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a Virtual Licensed Psychotherapist and Happiness Transformation Coach. I’m also the founder of Affinity Care, therapy and coaching practice where we teach ambitious women effective tools to build confidence and feel worthy again whether post break up, single, or in a relationship.

Working in the field since 2009, I have equipped thousands of women with proven effective tools to be able to manage waves of intense challenging emotions, being able to navigate conflict, express feelings better, get clear on and establish boundaries, and improve communication and relationships. I am on a mission to support women: gain clarity on their emotions and thoughts, feel confident in their self worth and boundaries, and feel fulfilled from the inside without the need of another unfulfilling relationship or unhealthy habit(s).

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities I have found to be most impactful in my journey are integrity, honesty, and self compassion. Integrity because in order for me to get anywhere with anything, I had to stop breaking promises and commitments I was making to myself. I had to understand what was truly under my procrastination or reasons for putting things off. Honesty has been impactful not just in the space of being honest with others but, more importantly, practicing being honest with myself. Being honest with myself and observing how I’m thinking and moving, without beating myself up has helped me understand why I do things, which in turn helps me make shifts. Leading me into the quality of self compassion. Self compassion involving things like surrendering, accepting, and forgiving. Having self compassion by surrendering and accepting challenging circumstances. Having self compassion through forgiving myself for choices that have led to disappointing outcomes. Living my life with integrity, honesty, and self compassion have been significantly impactful in my journey.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

My parents have been most helpful in helping me overcome challenges. From a young age, my parents instilled discipline through their rules. When I was younger, I didn’t like my parents’ strictness or rules. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized the importance of what they were teaching me. Discipline is one of the biggest forms of self love. Through discipline, I’ve been able to get through seasons of my life that I had no idea how I’d get through.
