Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fernanda Kelly. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Fernanda, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I have fond memories of my childhood in Tijuana, Mexico, where I would watch my parents and relatives listen and dance to Rocio Durcal, one of the most renowned Spanish singers of the era. Our family gatherings often turned into lively performances, complete with costumes and wigs, as we sang along to the tunes of Rocio Durcal, Amanda Miguel, and other beloved artists of the time. It was during these moments that I discovered my own passion for performing. As I matured, my love for the arts continued to grow, eventually leading me to pursue a career as an actress.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hola! I’m Fernanda Kelly, the founder and CEO of NYTAQ™, which stands for “Not Your Typical Average Queen.” My journey began during a challenging period when I relied on unemployment and food stamps. Feeling the need to connect with women facing similar struggles, I aimed to inspire each other to believe in our attainable dreams. Encountering resilient women in various work environments fueled my pursuit, leading to the creation of a platform offering support, guidance, and resources. As a leader within NYTAQ™, I strive to exemplify positivity, compassion, motivation, and dedication while fostering a culture of empowerment. My entrepreneurial journey is inspired by overcoming societal expectations and gender biases that hinder women from pursuing their passions authentically.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Throughout my journey as an entrepreneur and artist, numerous impactful moments have shaped my personal growth. If I were to distill them into three qualities, they would be as follows:
1. Resilience
2. Passion
3. Mission
My resilience is deeply rooted in the environment in which I was raised. Surrounded by determined individuals, I witnessed their ability to rise from setbacks and create new opportunities despite challenges.
My passion stems from this resilience. I discovered at a young age that my true joy lies in the act of creation, whether it’s bringing multidimensional characters to life in acting projects or engaging in the creative process for my clothing brand.
My mission is simple: to inspire others to believe that their dreams are always within reach, regardless of their circumstances.
To those embarking on their own journeys, my advice is to discover what truly ignites your soul. Follow your passions, whether or not there is immediate monetary gain. When you pursue what truly resonates with you, everything else falls into place. If it doesn’t light you up, it may not be your true calling.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My target audience consists of women who use clothing as a form of self-expression, boldly embodying their beliefs and values. These women are confident in themselves and unapologetic about what they stand for. NYTAQ™ caters to those who have a unique story to tell and are eager to share it with the world!
