Meet Esy Tadesse

We were lucky to catch up with Esy Tadesse recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Esy , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

It took me a considerable amount of time to truly acknowledge myself as a musician and have faith in my abilities. Even when others pointed out my talent and praised my performances, I was reluctant to believe them. However, at a certain point in my journey as a guitar player, I realized that no one is inherently skilled at playing the guitar; there is a learning curve for everyone. Although each person’s path may vary, there is a common process of growth. Subsequently, I gradually understood the importance of being open to making mistakes, learning from them, and continuously engaging in creative endeavors to enhance my self-confidence and self-esteem.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a musician and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In 2011, I attained a scholarship to pursue music studies at the Los Angeles College of Music, majoring in guitar performance. Over the years, I have engaged in live performances, music composition, and recording collaborations with various artists. Additionally, I have delved into acting and modeling on an occasional basis.
I am thrilled to announce the upcoming release of my debut guitar solo album on May 31st. While I previously launched a worship album, I have always harbored a deep desire to create an Ethio-Jazz album that delves into the diverse tapestry of Ethiopian music and its distinctive sound. With the support of FPE record label, we have dedicated significant effort to unveil this EthioJazz album to a global audience. The single “BUNA” has already been released and is available for streaming on all major platforms.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Ambition, resolve, and perseverance.
The advice I give is this: do not hesitate to dream, even if the goal appears daunting, as a heartfelt aspiration signifies an ingrained seed that will flourish. Commit to pursuing your objectives with all your might when the chance arises. Maintain unwavering determination until you witness the realization of your dreams.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The Bible serves as my guiding light, shaping my life around its timeless principles. It has been instrumental in my personal development, fostering love, acceptance, and wisdom within me. One verse, in particular, encourages me to adopt a one-day-at-a-time approach:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” – Matthew 6:34

During moments of uncertainty, another verse reminds me of life’s cyclical nature:
“For everything there is a season, A time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die…” – Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
