We recently connected with Tempestt Harris and have shared our conversation below.

Tempestt , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

My confidence and self-esteem stem from recognizing my inherent worth in the eyes of God. I am more confident in God’s ability to elevate my life than in my own. My faith has instilled in me a deep sense of assurance and purpose. As an artist and creative, I’ve always found beauty in others, and this perspective has nurtured a healthy self-esteem. I believe that loving others is integral to loving oneself, as it fosters empathy, compassion, and a genuine appreciation for the uniqueness of each individual.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My career is best described as that of a professional artist. Alongside Maresa Scott, we co-founded Level21 Magazine, a platform dedicated to fashion enthusiasts and pop culture lovers. Under our production umbrella, we produce TV shows, events, and short films. Through my artistry, I’ve had the privilege of styling celebrities like Shad Moss and creatively directing stars like Meagan Good. However, the greatest joy in my career has come from building and producing fashion shows, particularly the Carolina Fashion Awards, a historic moment for the Carolinas. We’ve successfully developed a board and system that recognizes the contributions of fashion professionals in our states. Looking ahead, we’re focused on creating more fashion films and even a feature film. Additionally, I enjoy painting, drawing, and sketching, with intentions to exhibit my personal work in several museums.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Reflecting on my journey, three qualities have always been at the core of my beliefs: keeping God first, patience, and education. In the demanding landscape of this industry, it’s easy to feel emotionally and physically drained. However, maintaining a strong spiritual life has been essential; it fills you up and guides you through moments of uncertainty. Patience has also played a crucial role, preventing me from making hasty decisions or succumbing to anxiety. It allows me to extend grace to those who may not understand my vision. Lastly, education is paramount. It not only provides a deep understanding of the business but also ensures that you are taken seriously in your field.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I strive to collaborate with fellow producers and directors in the film industry to create classic projects and expand our internship program. This initiative aims to empower college students and graduates in the realms of fashion media and entertainment, providing them with invaluable experience. Additionally, I aspire to forge partnerships with fashion brands like Balmain, further enhancing our creative endeavors and broadening our reach within the industry.
