Meet Duskin Wayne

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Duskin Wayne. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Duskin, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

As a middle schooler, I was bullied due to being the overweight, weird artsy kid in a small rural school district. The development of my art skills was a coping mechanism for me to tune out of the current reality I was in. It brought me peace and joy and I loved discovering the strange characters that I would channel from my imagination. They became friends who didn’t judge me. For years I struggled with having a low self-esteem. But, having the extra personality that comes naturally to me, pushed me to face my internal barriers of self-doubt. I knew I became talented and I was passionate about creating art. The development of my confidence came from a combination of influences to include having support from family, friends, and strangers when I would receive positive feedback about my art, and through my exhaustion of coping with anxiety and depression, I became sick and tired of being sick and tired of my circumstances. One day, I mindfully decided to advocate for myself. I promised myself I would take the same advice I would give to anyone else, especially those that mean the most to me. I would purposely put myself in uncomfortable situations simply to practice getting myself out of them. Then I would acknowledge the rewarding feeling I got when I realized I survived it. Such as entering an art competition that I didn’t think I was good enough for. Not only did I survive, but I won the Purchase Award from the gallery that hosted the event and they purchased my art for several thousands of dollars. I made the decision to become stubborn and to form my worth and create my boundaries. I practice holding myself and others accountable to them, reasonably, and I continued to take chances with my art which has promoted my growth, supported my success, and has morphed my life into a qualitative experience. Now, I’m a healthy creative professional who is strong enough to support others in their mission to rise above their own internal and external barriers as well. And that has become my purpose… to provide extraordinary art and meaningful art experiences to the community.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am currently committed to developing and implementing a solid brand identity for my art career and further networking with professional individuals and organizations within the industry to benchmark creative decor trends with unapologetically BOLD art while offering assistance to other artists who seek to become more successful with their art business strategies.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Be observant and receptive to advice, and think critically when identifying a problem, current state, potential solutions, and intended outcomes. Establish goals, tackle them in small increments, celebrate your victories and failures, learn from your mistakes, appreciate your skills and talents, and be kind.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am seeking relationships with organized professionals in the art and interior design and decorating industry who are leaders in trend setting and would like to collaborate on initiatives to provide the community with extraordinary art and meaningful art experiences. My two major goal are to 1 ) see my art on shelves in major retail environments across the nation as well as on the walls of galleries and museums; and 2.) obtain a facility that allows me to direct initiatives for building up other creatives skills sets within the community, especially those of underserved populations.
