Meet Eros The Prince of Poetry

We were lucky to catch up with Eros The Prince of Poetry recently and have shared our conversation below.

Eros, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I believe for years; I confused my purpose with my desire. I believed what I enjoyed doing was what I was meant to be doing. That’s not exactly how purpose works. Life taught me that purpose is what you are MEANT to do, despite what it is you may WANT to do.

I found my purpose in heartbreak, death, divorce, loss, financial hardship, insecurities, doubt, self-hate, disappointment, anxiety, empathy, and depression.

God helped me to realize that my purpose was closely linked to helping people realize that no matter how low you are, it is still a great starting place for God. My purpose was found in me realizing that I can reflect God in every scenario of my life, despite myself or my flaws.

This is when the depression went away. This is when my writing got better. This is the moment I got better, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. I stopped feeling sorry for myself and started recognizing that I was going through the fire simply to teach others how to get on the other side of it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a Father. A son and a grateful student of life and follower of Jehovah God.

I’m also an international Spoken Word Poet, Author, Recording Artist, Host, Minister, and Motivational Speaker.

As a profession, I’m a VP/Senior Manager for a large bank. From a philanthropy standpoint, I educate low to moderate income families on life insurance and financial health. I’m also a mentor for Chicago Public Schools and the Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago.

My books (The LoveHer Album- Self- Healing Journal and Love Notes Vol. 1) are sold exclusively on Amazon and my album (The LoveHer Album by Eros) is streaming on all platforms.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think three qualities that we need to have in this world which I believe encapsulates all, are Love for Self, Love for Others, and integrity.

I believe when we love ourselves, we will be mindful of how we move and the impact that we have on others. We will take care of ourselves and not speak ill of how God has created us.

When we love others, we will genuinely be happy for them to win. We can exercise compersion for them and express our joy for them despite what may be happening or NOT happening in our own lives. Practicing mindfulness with that love also helps us to see the good in people and not just their flaws.

And by developing integrity, it will remind us that God is watching us even when humans are not. When you do right by people, the right things will come your way. What you put into yourself the most, is what comes out the most. Garbage in: garbage out…God in: God out

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My mother’s mind and heart are the things that developed me the most. She was a lecturer through and through. Always full of wisdom and advice. I’m grateful she spent so much time teaching me when I was younger. I use many of her lessons in my life today and teach them to my own children.

At a very early age she gave me perspective. Taught me to respect myself and to be humble. She taught me the importance of not following along with the crowd. She taught me how to stand up for myself and to listen before I respond. It took me years to learn these lessons, but eventually it caught on.

My father was absent most of my life. I didn’t meet him until I was 29 years old. He struggled with substance abuse for most of his life and all of mine. My father still taught me patience and empathy without realizing it. In my older years, he’s helped me to realize how our vices can control us even when we may desire to do better.
