We recently connected with Akleema Ali and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Akleema, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
First of all, I need to acknowledge that for the majority of my life; I did not practice self-care. I have spent the majority of my life seeing about tasks and responsibilities; whether it is preparing meals, doing laundry, cleaning the house, taking care of others and of course the dealing with the pressures of the world of work.
About ten years ago, I started the practice of meditation. It was difficult for many reasons, firstly because it required time and time I did not have. Even when I sat do to it, I had the flooding of thoughts which made meditation like an impossible task for me. I went through cycles of starting and stopping various meditative practices. I knew my body and life needed calm but it was truly difficult to find moments in my life that cultivated the much desired stillness I wanted in my life.
Self care really becomes a major part of your life when either your health or the health of a family member becomes affected. Your perspective on life changes and in fact; you begin to realize that taking care of yourself, your family and your health is where your attention is supposed to be devoted to instead of focusing on the never-ending list of tasks to do and “burning the midnight oil” for the workplace. Life during the pandemic was difficult and the challenges continued on the return to physical work spaces.
The past decade I have used meditation and Reiki as my major modalities for self-care, relaxation and peace. Reiki is a Japanese technique for relaxation and calm. Reiki is a modality where you are tuned in to the “Ki”, “Chi”, “Prana” or Universal Life Force Energy that surround all living things. The five principles of Reiki also act as your daily guide. As a self care practice, every practitioner should meditate on these principles daily.
In using meditative practices at home, I am able to sit and carve out my moments of peace and quiet. Meditation is also about making peace with your life journey and all the varied experiences that you have been able to have thus far. My self-care also involves activities that soothe my body and soul. So while I don’t have a physical set schedule for self-care, I have become very aware as to whether I need to sit in nature, go for a walk, sip on some herbal tea, play soothing music or even soak my feet in an Epsom salt bath. Self-care is the journey of you honouring yourself at the stage you are at and incorporating habits that lead to a healthier, more balanced YOU! I definitely can reflect on my journey and see how transformative my meditative practices and self-care habits have been for my life.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’d love to share more about what I do and what makes it special! At ‘The Reiki Lighthouse,’ my focus is on fostering health and wellness through personalized Reiki sessions, mentoring, and publications. What sets my approach apart is the individualized attention and care I bring to each session. Whether it’s addressing physical ailments, emotional imbalances, or spiritual alignment, I tailor my Reiki sessions to meet the unique needs of each client, guiding them towards greater well-being and inner harmony.
One of the most exciting aspects of my work is teaching Reiki classes. I offer instruction at all levels, from beginner to master, empowering others to harness the healing power of Reiki for themselves and others. It’s incredibly rewarding to see students embark on their own journeys of self-discovery and healing through Reiki.
In addition to traditional Reiki, I offer Reiki Drumming classes, which combine the soothing vibrations of Reiki with the rhythmic beats of drumming for a deeply immersive healing experience. It’s a unique way to tap into the healing energy of Reiki and connect with the primal rhythms of the soul.
Now, onto something new and exciting! I’m thrilled to introduce Rahaani 5D Celestial Healing sessions to my offerings. These sessions harness the transformative energies of the celestial realms to facilitate healing and spiritual growth on a profound level. What is especially unique about Rahaani 5D Celestial Healing is that similar to Reiki, it can be offered as distance healing, allowing clients to experience its benefits from the comfort of their own homes.
Whether through individualized Reiki sessions, transformative classes, or innovative healing modalities like Rahaani 5D Celestial Healing, my mission is to guide others towards greater health, happiness, and spiritual fulfillment.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most impactful things in my journey thus far have been networking, continuous learning and having a mentor. When it comes to networking, I see it as the lifeblood of professional growth. It’s not just about collecting business cards or making connections on LinkedIn; it’s about building genuine relationships within your industry or field. Networking opens up doors to new opportunities, collaborations, and insights. For me, it’s about actively engaging with professionals, attending industry events, and participating in online communities. By putting myself out there and fostering meaningful connections,
I’ve been able to stay updated on industry trends, gain valuable advice, and even land exciting projects or job offers.
Continuous learning is a non-negotiable factor in today’s fast-paced world. It’s all about staying ahead of the curve and adapting to new challenges and technologies. I’m constantly seeking out opportunities to expand my knowledge and skill set, whether it’s through online courses, workshops, or self-study.
Having mentors in my field has been a game-changer for me. Having someone who’s been there, done that, and is willing to share their insights and advice is incredibly valuable. I have been very fortunate to have mentors who have provided guidance, challenged my thinking, and helped me navigate tricky career decisions. Whether it’s seeking out a formal mentorship program or just connecting with someone I admire in my field, having that mentorship relationship has been instrumental in my development. And you know what? It’s not just a one-way street – I’ve also had the opportunity to pay it forward and mentor others, which has been incredibly rewarding.
Networking, continuous learning, and having a mentor are all essential components of my professional journey and they have helped me grow, adapt, and thrive in an ever-changing landscape.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Definitely the most impactful thing my parents did for me was emphasizing the value of working hard and getting an education. They viewed education and the need for continuous learning as the way to being successful and stable in life. It is interesting to note that while both my parents had continuous learning and education at the top of their list for their children; they also emphasized other important values. My mother emphasized the value being financially independent. To value financial independence is the key to being able to have the freedom to decide on your goals and the desired lifestyle that you want to have in this life.
My father emphasized also the value of having a holistic lifestyle by not only focusing on academics, but being able to participate in sports and having a healthy diet. He took great pride in encouraging us to play sports and devoted a lot of his time at home teaching us various sports like cricket, badminton, tennis and table tennis. His devotion led to all of his children being able to participate in various sporting competitions.
It must be said that both my parents place high value and importance on religion and the development of your spiritual journey. From a young age, I was exposed to the teachings and practices of our family’s religious beliefs. My parents instilled in me the idea that spirituality is not just a personal belief system, but a guiding force that shapes every aspect of our lives. They taught me to approach life with reverence and mindfulness, understanding that there is a deeper meaning and purpose beyond the material world.
Even as I pursued my studies and professional endeavors, the lessons imparted by my parents remained a constant source of inspiration and guidance. Their unwavering belief in the power of faith, compassion, and spiritual growth continues to fuel my passion for helping others on their own paths towards healing and enlightenment.
In essence, the high value and importance that my parents place on religion and spiritual development have been instrumental in shaping not only my personal beliefs but also my approach to holistic healing and wellness. Their influence serves as a guiding light, reminding me to always seek alignment with my higher purpose and to approach life’s challenges with faith, resilience, and an open heart.
