Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Durr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I naturally gravitate towards a classic design style. I love incorporating neutral color palettes, fine china and luxurious linens into my designs. Traveling, collaborating with other amazing designers and the desire to bring every client’s vision to reality keeps my creativity alive.
When traveling I enjoy the challenges of adapting to a new culture and communicating in a different language. This allows me to see the world through another person’s eyes, giving me the opportunity to try new things and embrace adventures as they come. These experiences make it easier for me to bring my client’s visions to reality and collaborate with other designers who have a different design style.
Creativity is the use of the imagination in the production of an artistic work and our team is here to bring our clients artful designs to reality.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Creating beautiful floral designs and planning amazing events is my passion.
Understanding the importance of creating long-lasting and beautiful memories is in my DNA as I come from a large, close-knit family; additionally, I have spent the last decade building a company that is known for providing exceptional service to our client’s while creating beautiful, personalized florals and designs. My attention to detail, knack for establishing personal, distinct relationships with each client; and commitment to exceeding expectations is the focal of every endeavor at Seiromem.
Making your vision a reality is my pledge, being entrusted with your event is my pleasure.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
“Find your passion” is a cliche statement for most but it is the best advice I can give someone on a similar journey. Starting this business has made me want to throw in the towel many times, and I think most business owners will agree. From tedious admin work to demanding clients, some days you feel like the world is caving in on you, but the passion is what will keeps you going day after day.
Attracting the ideal client is your next step. Many will see your work and want to hire you, but the ideal client will LOVE your work and NEED to work with you. Believe me there is a difference. Building meaning relationships with those clients will keep you sane and enjoying the creative process.
Lastly, learning to say no was the hardest thing for me, but it is required sometimes. I wanted everyone to experience for creativity, but I quickly learned everyone does not appreciate my creativity, and that is disheartening. For me, there is a fine line between building a successful business and walking in my purpose. Finding that balance has allowed me to continue providing excellent service while fulfilling my purpose.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Finding the right team has helped me overcome many obstacles. Building a reliable team and knowing when to outsource task has allowed me to keep enjoying the work.
Jacksonville has some amazing vendors that do excellence work, and this has made my job so rewarding. Knowing I can give my client’s everything they need without burning out is a gift.
