Meet King P

We were lucky to catch up with King P recently and have shared our conversation below.

King, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Think I’ve always had it because I believe the dreams I’ve seen about myself so it’s difficult for me to not be resilient. However, one the earliest life events I remember playing optimist tackle football. The head coach needed to make some cuts. The coach was pointing out players and I thought he pointed at me. So a week or two went by and I was practicing with the B team (players that got cut). My step dad came to practice one day and was confused why I wasn’t with the A team. I told him I got cut! He didn’t believe it so he asked the coach and the coach reply was we didn’t cut him we been wondering where he was, I spoke up and said you pointed at me to go to the B team, he said nope….anyway, I was MVP (most valuable player) that season. What it taught me about myself was I was going to be the best no matter the situation I was in. It revealed to me I’m a fighter, never to quit and also an early lesson in speaking up for myself because I knew what I was capable of as an athlete and thought ain’t no way I should of been cut but I was humble and let it be without asking to make sure.
