We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lovisa Stroem. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lovisa below.
Lovisa, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
As an actress, a strong work ethic is essential. I truly believe that you can achieve anything you dream of, as long as you’re willing to put in the hard work. Often, our biggest enemy is ourselves. I live by Walt Disney’s timeless saying: “If you can dream it, you can do it.” This philosophy drives me to keep improving my craft, always aiming to be a better actress than I was yesterday.
My dedication and drive come from my background as a competitive figure skater. Figure skating was a significant part of my life and it taught me the value and importance of hard work to achieve my goals. The thrill of seeing the hard work pay off has always been my biggest motivation to go even further This mindset, ingrained from a young age, has benefited my adult life and my acting career.
Being an actors means taking classes, auditioning, and dealing with a lot of rejection, which can be really tough and exhausting. But staying positive, never giving up, and keeping at it will eventually bring results. But most importantly, you have to enjoy it! If you don’t love what you’re doing, it’s not worth it. My passion and love for acting keeps me motivated to put in the effort and turning hard work into something I love!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
So, my name is Lovisa Ström. I lived my entire life in Sweden until September 2022, when I made the decision to move to Los Angeles. Leaving behind my life in Sweden, where I spent the last five years earning a Master’s degree in Law, was the best decision I’ve made so far. In Los Angeles, I studied at two schools, UCLA Extension and Lee Strasberg Film and Theater Institute, that I recently graduated from. I absolutely love my life here, mainly because it allows me to do what I love —acting.
Now, I’m on my OPT, which allows me to work in the industry. I’ve had the opportunity to act in several short films, both in lead and supporting roles, and I even landed a part in a feature film. In just a few days, I’ll be shooting my first web series, and I couldn’t be more excited about it! I am so grateful. Grateful to be here, and grateful for the opportunity to work in the field.
This journey has shown me the importance of doing what you love. Having a passion and a dream is a gift. Every day, I’m learning so much—not just about acting, but also about myself. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Above, I talked about how work-ethic is crucial when you decide to pursue an acting career. I really believe that, but three other qualities that I think is fundamental is patience, optimistic, and confidence.
Patience: Everything doesn’t happen over a night. It’s easy to idolize your favorite actors and forget about the years of rejection and hard work they went through. So, remembering good things take time is key. Enjoy every step of the journey!
Optimistic: Staying positive in a hard and competitive business is one of the biggest favor you can do to yourself. It’s already hard as it is so being negative only holds you back, both in your career and in life. It’s easier said than done, but seeing the glass half full can make all the difference.
Confidence: I have noticed a big difference in my acting performance, when I believe in myself a 100 %,
Acting is about commitment. Commit fully to the character. When I’m confident as an actress, it completely changes my performance. And it’s mindset, that make such a big difference. Pursuing acting in Los Angeles has really taught my something, to fully believe in yourself and have confidence – which can take you further than you ever thought.
My advice to people who just started their journey is – go for it! Work as much as you can do and have fun. Don’t let your fears hinder your journey.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to collaborate with anyone in this field! If anyone has any productions that are coming up, I would love to be a part of it. Either as an actor or an PA!
