We recently connected with Veronica Dominguez and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Veronica with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I have a strong work ethic and I see it as work hard in everything you put your hand to. I also put my heart into each thing I do and add a touch of who I am to each Interior or Exterior Design bringing indoor nature into peoples home or office. I have experience in interior or exterior greenery design with wellbeing in mind.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
S & V Plant Love got in on plant design and indoor trees like the fiddle leaf tree in 2020. The plants we offer were at the time very hard to find. Started by selling individual plants and trees then moved into taking on projects like commercial offices and businesses. Today we have our plants at some well known businesses. Fred’s Texas Cafe hired us to design and maintain they’re two big restaurants last year, We do all the care on the plants and trees for them. Quincy Wallace started out and only wanted a little beer money from his endeavors. Now he’s CEO of Fred’s Texas Café, ready to open the iconic restaurant’s location on Camp Bowie and Western Center. We also do work for M2G Ventures, as a Certified Women Owned Business based in Fort Worth, Texas, M2G Ventures has acquired more than 4.1 million square feet of property since inception ranging from adaptive reuse, mid-century warehouses; complete building transformations and redevelopments of historic buildings; and large-scale Class A industrial developments, to name a few. Another woman owned business The Bearded Lady known for a fantastic gastropub experience hired us for their patio, maintenance and outdoor plant design. They will be opening their second sister gastropub The Tropical Lady very soon! We look forward to working on that with them.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back I think the most helpful thing to help me grow was learning from each project every time. Adding on knowledge of plant and tree care and learning it for both outdoor and indoor design project. I also keep all my clients in mind and they still contact me when they need me to source a plant or tree or give advise on care of their plants as I still do home visits. I offer repotting plants for clients, tree trimming for fiddles, identifying the most resilient and native plants for our surroundings here in Dallas Fort Worth area. Learning to listen to each client and gaining their perspective was also key. I also identified when the plant and tree market got saturated which it is now. And reangling our company focus to commercial properties and more plant maintenance jobs. My advice to anyone starting out is look around and find your resources. People, places, things going on in the field you are going into.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I have to credit my husband Sal Dominguez for helping me overcome challenges and adding new qualities to have in working on each project I take on. I also have a great set of friends who are hard working business women as examples. Kelly Bowden of Rosen House Inn, Hao Tran owner of Hao’s Grocery and Cafe, Jessica Castaneda of Chef Jess Bakes, she does wonderful things in her business too.
