We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Johnique Bennett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Johnique below.
Johnique, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience stems from an inner sense of pride in my work. I take great satisfaction in seeing a task through to completion and knowing it’s been done well. My drive to push myself comes from within and is not influenced by others’ opinions or ideas. If my efforts contribute to my own happiness or the happiness of those I care about, that is what motivates me to keep going.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My journey began with a rather personal and selfish motivation: I wanted to extend my own life. My family’s medical history, much like many others, high blood pressure, diabetes, strokes, heart disease etc.. This reality hit me hard when my mother passed away from a fatal heart attack at the age of 49, while I was just 21. Her death was a wake-up call that fueled my determination to outlive her by adopting a healthier lifestyle.
From a young age, I had a keen interest in science and excelled academically, making a career in medicine a natural fit. After my mother’s passing, I became resolute in understanding the reasons behind her health issues and how to prevent similar outcomes for myself and others like her. With her in mind, this mission led to the founding of Affirm Direct Primary Care (ADPC).
At ADPC, we address the real barriers to optimal health. While we can’t change our genetics, we can change our behaviors, eating habits, routines, and mindset. Our goal is to empower patients to take control of their health. Through the Direct Primary Care model, we offer a membership plan that eliminates the need for traditional insurance billing, allowing us to focus solely on our patients’ needs. This model enables us to prioritize patient care over administrative tasks, ensuring that our patients are at the center of everything we do.
ADPC provides comprehensive and unlimited primary care appointments starting at just $99 per month. We recently launched our 3-month and 6-month Weight Loss Programs, which include monthly accountability check-ins, medication management for weight loss, monthly body analysis scans, and 3 months of nutritional support with our partnering registered dietitian, among other benefits.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Optimism, a willingness to work for what I want, and a general sense of fairness are all attributes that help me succeed and feel confident and satisfied in my decisions.
My advise would be to make your mission clear. If your decisions and hard work align with the mission you set out to achieve. You will succeed!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I always looking for collaborators. My ideal collaborator would be a small business or solopreneur. This person or group is looking for alternative ways to keep engaged with health and wellness for themselves or employees. Another, form of collaboration is healthcare professionals looking to shared space. My office holds multiple office-for-rent spaces or large multiple-use space for group events. Also, I appreciate invitations to speak at wellness events or social gatherings to share about different health topics or my services.
