Meet Ryan “Fly Ry” Hendricks

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ryan “Fly Ry” Hendricks . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ryan, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Being the only one in the room has taught me the importance of repetition. I love to be alone and rehearse my poems over and over. No fear of judgment lurks around the corner. I’m free to express myself in the most artistic way possible. The fruits of isolation present itself on every stage I touch from then on. The crowd showing love is an affirmation of success.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Bio

“PS, PS . . . POETICALLY SPEAKING! Is what the crowd chants when Fly Ry touches the stage. Ryan “Fly Ry” Hendricks from the North End of Waterbury has certainly left his mark in Connecticut. From touching stages like Poetry Me Please, Voices In Power and The National Poetry Slam, to curating his own events like PoHooketry, Museum Of Poets and The Community Vibes Block Party, Fly Ry always seems to be creating. His love for poetry, music and events has been around since he graduated Crosby High School in 2010. That fire and desire has yet to go away as he continues his career in entertainment. With every successful business venture he gets into and every stage he takes command of, Fly Ry is sure to do a whole lot of PS’n … Poetically Speaking!”

I like to think of myself as an entrepreneur. It’s exciting to combine my artistic abilities with a money mindset and get the show rolling. Finding a way to create business for myself and others from straight passion is my pursuit of happiness. I think it’s dope that poetry is really changing my life.

I currently curate some of the dopest poetry shows coming out of Connecticut!

Let’s Taco Bout Poetry is every last Tuesday of the month at The Zone in Waterbury CT. It’s a poetry open mic where we talk about EVERYTHING poetry. $2 tacos and drink specials are a hit!

Museum Of Poets is an experience where poets immerse themselves in fully curated set designs to tell their stories. Some of the best Poets in the country will be in Brooklyn NY June 30th at our next event. The vibes are always up and the experience is one of a kind.

Community Vibes Block Party is a Waterbury CT staple! For 11 years we the Hendricks family have been giving back to our community with vibes. We shut down Walnut Avenue, turn the speakers up and watch our community vibe with bouncy houses, free jerk chicken, performances, dance battles, watermelon eating contests and school supplies. July 20th on Walnut avenue in Waterbury CT. Bring the whole family!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Staying consistent is number one for me. If you keep at what ever it is you are doing you will have no choice but to be great. You will get better and opportunities will continue to come your way.

PoHooketry was my first poetry event. I started it as soon as I came back home from Cali, that’s my baby. Every last Thursday of the month for 5 years straight taught me how to be resilient.

Resiliency is number 2 for me. Even when I didn’t want to be at the shows I had to be there. Even when the shows were slow I had to handle my business. Being resilient allowed me to see the fruits of my labor.

Fruits of labor is the trinity. Hard work pays off when your work hard. But when you continue to eat the fruits of your work don’t forget that people once helped feed you as well. It’s not all about you eating sometimes you have to show love to others and allow them to eat for free. Feeding your spirit costs nothing.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

Right now Museum Of Poets is bigger than our pockets. We are looking for investors that see the vision of it being the biggest poetry platform in the world! We have so many ideas and can’t wait to bring them all to life.
