We were lucky to catch up with Kingdawud Burgess recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kingdawud, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I come from a place where many are not expected to be able to leave.
A place where there is not many choices or resources.
I always saw that as amazing. Being able to survive with the bare necessities and sometimes not even having bare necessities made me strong.
Knowing my chances of making it in this World we already unequal made me super confident.
I woke up everyday facing odds that most couldn’t image or be able to navigate through to survive.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a student of life. Nothing about life goes the way we plan or expect it to, yet still we have to live.
I use the lessons I’ve learned in life to better myself and my peers.
I am a man who does many things. I’m a poet, a film Director, a business man, a writer and more.
At times, you’ll find yourself unable to go forward with your plan in life do to a piece or a person being missing from that equation.
I make myself learn every position so that I can run the entire team myself.
Thus for it’s safe to say I’m a man who wears many hats out of necessity.
I just launched a product in Amazon under my brand Lavish Livin. I am shooting a movie in Morocco titled 100 years in Morocco. I also have a clothing brand and a multi media company.
Again, there are jobs that must be done and when others don’t show up to do them they still have to be done so my role transitions from CEO to employee.
Always be the help you need and you’ll rarely ever need help.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Listening
Doing
Never making excuses.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Noble Quran.
Knowing who created this World you live in, knowing why you were created and how you are expected to live eliminates challenges many face on a daily basis.
Understanding what is not always understandable is key.
