Lukis Mac & Helle Weston , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
When we chase what brings us joy, we start to connect with our true purpose. This not only fulfills us personally but also spreads positivity everywhere.
As we follow our joy, we naturally find ourselves drawn to activities, relationships, and experiences that feel right for us.
If something doesn’t vibe with us, it’s just not meant for us right now. When things don’t feel right, we trust our instincts; that’s our inner self guiding us towards a different direction. It’s like our soul saying, “Hey, try this other path—it’s where you need to be.”
Joy is our guide, leading us to our best selves and letting us express who we truly are. It’s not about what’s happening around us; it comes from within as we stay true to ourselves. When we focus on what brings us joy, we start to attract opportunities and experiences that match our inner vibe.
First, we figure out what really lights us up. We think about times, activities, or moments in our lives when we felt truly joyful and fulfilled.
We trust that following our joy is the right path. We believe the universe has our back and that by chasing our joy, we’ll find experiences and opportunities that are perfect for us.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Helle and I met in Auckland, New Zealand, 17 years ago, and we connected on a deep level right away. Initially, we were just friends who did everything together, but over time, our relationship evolved into a deep romantic connection.
From the start, we shared a passion for personal growth, adventure, and travel. We were both deeply into self-help, personal development, and spirituality.
In 2012, we left New Zealand and began a decade-long journey traveling the world together, focusing on learning, growing, and developing both personally and professionally.
At the time, I was a tattoo artist, and Helle was a fashion stylist. We were committed to helping people enhance their mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
While we were passionate about our careers, we eventually realized we wanted more from life and began to pursue new dreams. Helle left the fashion industry to study full-time, earning certifications in various modalities like coaching, hypnotherapy, BodyTalk, EFT, somatic experiencing, breathwork, and more.
I also left my career as an artist to study full-time. After becoming certified Breathwork Facilitators and working with private clients for over a year, Helle and I decided to share the transformative potential of this work with a broader audience.
Combining everything we had learned over our 10-year journey of personal development and study, we created our company, Owaken. Since then, we have worked with thousands of people from all over the world, including politicians, CEOs, athletes, actors, celebrities, and high achievers.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Self-belief and investing in our vision have been crucial for living a fulfilling and successful life. When we believe in ourselves, we unlock the potential to achieve our dreams. This self-confidence propels us forward, allowing us to take risks and pursue our goals with conviction.
Living outside our comfort zone is where true growth happens. It’s easy to stay in a safe and familiar place, but real progress comes when we challenge ourselves and embrace the unknown. Stepping into discomfort can be intimidating, but it’s a necessary step to achieve greatness and realize our vision.
Fear is a natural response to stepping outside our comfort zone, but it shouldn’t hold us back. The voice of fear can be loud and persistent, trying to convince us to stay put and avoid taking risks. However, acknowledging this fear and choosing to act despite it is where the magic happens. Aligned action—taking steps that are in harmony with our true selves and our vision—is essential for overcoming fear and achieving our goals.
Investing in our vision means dedicating time, energy, and resources to what we truly believe in. It’s about making a commitment to our dreams and taking consistent, purposeful action towards them. This might involve further education, personal development, or even changing our environment to better support our aspirations.
Ultimately, self-belief, investing in our vision, and living outside our comfort zone are intertwined. Together, they create a powerful formula for success. We don’t let fear slow us down or stop us from taking aligned action. We trust in ourselves and our abilities, invest in our dreams, and embrace the journey with courage and determination.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When we feel overwhelmed, we turn to inner work practices to help us navigate through stress and reconnect with our intuition. One of the key strategies we use is Owaken Breathwork, a powerful tool that supports us in letting go of stress and tapping into our inner guidance.
Owaken Breathwork has been transformative for us. When life feels chaotic and the pressure mounts, taking time to focus on our breath helps us find calm and clarity. This practice allows us to release tension and anxiety, creating space for our minds and bodies to relax and reset.
Through breathwork, we can quiet the noise of the outside world and listen to our inner selves. This connection to our intuition is vital; it guides us in making decisions that are aligned with our true path and helps us stay grounded even in the midst of challenges.
In addition to breathwork, we incorporate other inner work practices such as meditation, journaling, and mindfulness exercises. These practices help us maintain a balanced state of mind and keep us centered. They provide a foundation of inner peace and resilience, enabling us to handle whatever comes our way.
By prioritizing these inner work practices, we not only manage our stress but also strengthen our connection to our intuition. This empowers us to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and grace. For us, the journey of overcoming overwhelm is about tuning into our inner selves and trusting that we have the tools and wisdom within to find our way forward.
