We recently connected with Alessandra Aguirre and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alessandra, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
It has been a long process, not going to lie! I think confidence is something you need to build, and in order to get very confident in yourself, you just need to experience and have the desire to learn. As an artist, confidence is something I have struggled. Sometimes it’s hard to trust yourself on your craft because of all the variables that can influence the way you think about yourself. Especially in the entertainment industry, where there are a lot of people doing the same thing as you are and sometimes you ask yourself “what are they doing right that I am doing wrong? The way I have build my confidence has been throughout positive affirmations and changing the way I think and process my thoughts. I have build a habit on concentrating on myself and on my own career and not comparing myself with others. This has helped me a lot because once you start focusing on your career and how to make yourself better, that is where you finally feel like you are good at what you do.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Alessandra Aguirre and I am a 22 year old artist from Peru. Since little my life has always revolved around music; being in musicals, writing songs, producing songs, participating in concerts, reality shows… I always knew that I wanted to pursue music as my career and therefore decided to go to Berklee College of Music to study production and business. Music has always been a way of expressing my feelings and telling stories in a different way than just speech. One single melody can speak volumes on how the artist is feeling or what the artist is trying to convey. I have always tried to release songs that feel true to myself. All the songs Ive released (all streaming platforms; Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, etc) are songs that I wrote and songs that I enjoy! I am currently working on my upcoming album which I am really excited about. I would say my genre as off right now is Latin 80’s Pop, but I have experienced with more.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I think that being resilient was a skill that really made the difference. There were a lot of times where I failed or I had worked on something for a long time and the results were not as I expected. If I would’ve gave up there, then I wouldn’t be where I am now. I think that in order for you to get “lucky” you first need to work hard, and once you have worked hard, then your leap of faith could come. But if there is no hard, and constant work, then the opportunity will never arrive. I also think that being very open to meeting people. I have met most of my peers by going to events and networking. At first, I was very scared because I didn’t know how to start a conversation or how to approach someone, but as I have gotten to go to more events, you start getting used to it. I also think that taking care of your mental health and your body is very important. The days that I had no energy to do anything, was because I had been eating really bad, or hadn’t done exercise for two weeks. Exercise and food changed the game for me. Even though I started going to the gym 2 weeks ago hahaha.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to encourage me to follow my passion and study Music. I was very insecure if music was a career I wanted to follow. I was sure that I loved music and I wanted it to be a big part of my life, but I had a lot of doubts if pursuing it as a career was the right thing for me. My parents believed in me and they were the ones who told me that I should. My parents are my Pilars in life. I am so grateful to have parents who love me, take care of me, believe in me, and also challenge me. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldnt be here.
