We were lucky to catch up with Earvee Cruz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Earvee, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I woke up one day and decided I wanted to be my best-self, and confidence was just a side-effect to me showing up for myself! I’m growing and learning to love myself everyday through these changes, one thing stays consistent, is the way I talk to myself. I keep my self-talk positive, encouraging, and loving. Confidence is a decision. You chose to do things for your own satisfaction and pleasure and not for anyone else’s. When you make choices centered around your own desires, it’s easy to be confident because the outcome of your actions should be fulfilling to your soul. Building self love has a lot to do with getting to know yourself, and that requires a lot of time by yourself. Spend time to make yourself look good, which helps you feel good, and gives a lot of abundant energy to do good into the world. In my opinion, knowing yourself and all the details about who you are, helps build confidence because it reassures that people can’t tell you who you’re not. So wake up, envision the highest version of you, and show up as her everyday!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a model, actor, hairstylist from the Bay Area, based in LA. The best part about living in LA as a creative is being able to tap into all my talents and skills, and not having to limit myself into “one niche.” LA actually encourages us to be as well rounded as possible, which really enables me to pursue all my creative outlets equally. Recently, I’ve built a platform on instagram by filming hair tutorial videos. I want to maximize this momentum and build a credibility across all my social medias, So I started a YouTube Chanel that I’d love for everyone to tune into. All my socials can be found as @EarveeCruz
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Initiative and Discipline is going to take you the furthest! Everyday is a challenge, there is so many people who’s going to want the same exact thing you do, the difference will be in how you do it, and how long you can withstand to do it! It’s not about having the best plan or the best start, it’s about taking the initiative to just start, just do it! That will give you more time to make mistakes and adjust your plan accordingly. Discipline is what will keep you going through the setbacks. My other advice is to Invest in your hobbies, because they can turn into skillsets that can open doors for you.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
I come from a family of immigrants, I moved to America when I was only 8 years old. I can always thank my dad for that sacrifice, he left everything behind to give us a new world of opportunities. He always emphasized the importance of growing and maximizing our lifetime on earth. It’s taught me to be adaptable and to never be complacent in life. I remember coming to my dad about my fears and hesitation on moving to LA, and he looked at me and said, “I moved across the word with kids and nothing to my name, You’ll be okay.” That was the push I needed to take this risk, and in return it gave me the best reward. I would not be where I am in my career or in life, without my dads consistent wisdom and sacrifices.
