Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Modest Jones . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Modest , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

I have learned to trust my true self and my purpose. Being the only one in the room who is melanated makes me more effective and successful because increased melanin gives me a head start into longevity of life, health, wellness, and strength.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I recently received a promotion to the Nevada Market Manager for Method Man’s cannabis brand, TICAL: Taking Into Consideration All Lives.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey were the willingness and ability to learn from my experiences/keeping a student mentality, building and cultivating meaningful relationships, and honest/effective communication.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

My biggest area of growth and improvement in the past 12 months has been learning to be quiet. Waiting until someone is completely done speaking and even 10-30 seconds after that before responding. Fully hearing others out and creating more space for silence, solitude, and inner contemplation.
