Meet Alicia Hurtt

We were lucky to catch up with Alicia Hurtt recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Finding purpose through pain is a journey many can relate to. For me, it was overcoming infertility that led me to discover my calling. I walked through the darkness, lived the struggles, and made a vow to myself that if I could alleviate even a fraction of another woman’s burden, I would do so. My purpose became clear: to offer support, understanding, and companionship to those who feel alone in their fertility battles.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m thrilled to share that we have an upcoming annual retreat titled “She Deserves” in Negril, Jamaica, at the beautiful Patoo Castle from November 18th to 21st. It’s a gathering where women will come together to heal, motivate one another, and embark on their personal journeys, whether it’s overcoming physical infertility or birthing a new business. What makes it truly special is our incredible lineup of women mentors, coaches, and speakers who will be there to provide support and guidance.

In addition to the retreat, I’m excited to announce that we’re in the process of locating our first physical space, which will include a birthing center, sponsors, mentors, and medical staff to support women on a daily and as-needed basis. This space will be a sanctuary where women can receive the care and support they need throughout their journeys.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Taking a holistic approach to dealing with infertility personally involves addressing not just the physical aspects, but also the emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions of the journey. Here’s how:

Physical Well-being: Prioritize your physical health by maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular exercise, and getting adequate rest. Consider seeking guidance from healthcare professionals specializing in fertility to explore medical treatments or interventions that may be beneficial. Additionally, incorporate practices like acupuncture, yoga, or meditation, which have been shown to support reproductive health.
Emotional Support: Acknowledge and honor your emotions throughout the fertility journey. Seek support from loved ones, support groups, or mental health professionals who can provide empathy, validation, and coping strategies. Expressing your feelings through journaling, art, or therapy can help alleviate stress and promote emotional well-being.
Mental Resilience: Cultivate a resilient mindset by reframing challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. Practice self-compassion and positive self-talk, recognizing that infertility does not define your worth or identity. Engage in mindfulness practices to stay grounded in the present moment and manage anxiety or worry about the future.
Spiritual Connection: Explore practices that nurture your spiritual well-being and provide a sense of meaning and purpose. This may include prayer, meditation, connecting with nature, or engaging in rituals or ceremonies that resonate with your beliefs. Cultivating a sense of connection to something greater than yourself can offer comfort and perspective during difficult times.
Approaching infertility from a holistic perspective recognizes the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, and seeks to address each aspect with compassion and care. By integrating various strategies to support your overall well-being, you can navigate the challenges of infertility with greater resilience and inner strength.
