We were lucky to catch up with Fonzy Mr.FFTV recently and have shared our conversation below.
Fonzy , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my parents. Growing up in a 2 parent household really taught me right from wrong! Being able to make hard decisions and staying on task i learned at a early age! My basketball background taught me a lot also. Being a high performance atlehetes really makes my drive even more competitive by nature.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have an amazing talent when it comes to putting things together and connecting all the dots. Im a cameraman and editor by trade. Its my profession. Ive had a passion creating story and building careers through the TV screen. I direct music videos, TV shows, reality show and more on a day to day basis. But im also an artist manager. I deal with independent artist everyday getting them exposure and brand deals. You may see me hosting mixtape reales parties and interviews but also filming the very ones im working for!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Adaptability: The ability to adapt to new situations, filming problems, and challenges are crucial in my journey, especially in a field as rapidly evolving as filming with AI and technology. Being adaptable allows you to embrace change, learn quickly, and thrive in dynamic environments. My advice for upcoming videographers adaptability is to cultivate a growth mindset.
Curiosity: The fuel that drives learning and innovation. It’s the desire to understand how things work, ask questions, and explore new ideas. Cultivating curiosity involves staying curious about the world around you, asking questions, and seeking out new knowledge and experiences.
Perseverance: Perseverance is the determination to keep going despite obstacles, setbacks, and challenges. It’s what allows you to push through difficult times, stay focused on your goals, and ultimately achieve success.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
One of my biggest problems at the moment is living in it! Actually living in the moment and not moving pass every accomplishment. Embracing the moment one step at a time.
