Meet Paul Hollingsworth

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paul Hollingsworth. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paul below.

Paul, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I was 16 when I discovered filmmaking. As a young kid from the suburbs of Canada I had a lot of time to craft films for high school projects. My friends all help out with productions. Some loved acting, some on the technical side. It was rewarding to see our endeavors shared on the screen in class.

During film school, my sister Lesley was hospitalized for Multiple Sclerosis. One day she couldn’t walk, a year later she couldn’t talk and about a year later she passed. To watch a young, vibrant woman (who was studying to become a pilot) so full of life, fading away was such a tragedy. I vowed to myself to never waste a day.

I spent a few years in Toronto filming and editing anything and everything! TV shows, ghost sightings, car racing, pow-wows with the Metis tribe, and several documentaries allowed me to travel all across North America, Argentina, and Antarctica.

LEGO building and stop-motion were always hobbies and I started dropping videos on YouTube. I had a few viral hits like LEGO Jurassic Park and LEGO Ghostbusters, which led to producing branded content. As the projects grew, so did the team of incredible artists – Digital Wizards Studios was born!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Digital Wizards Studios creates animated stories with love and magic in every frame. While some folks are investing in AI, we are doubling down on handmade, handcrafted animation made by real artists with real paint, shot under real lights. This kind of storytelling creates a connection.

I get to live my dream! I get to make LEGO Harry Potter and LEGO Lord of the Rings stop-motion animations with a team of brilliant artists and technicians. When we’re not filming ads, we craft films.

Our newest film – a haunting animated drama “One Final Day” – At the height of the Second World War, two young soldiers on different sides of history begin to question the war they once glorified, and are forced to choose how to respond. One Final Day is a journey through war-torn Europe in an animated drama exploring the brutalities of war, bravery, honor, and the price of freedom.

We have handcrafted puppets, tiny costumes and 3d printed over 200 replaceable heads for this film.

We are looking for distribution for our animated kids series. We’ve screened at over 24 festivals worldwide and have won 7 awards including the Los Angeles International Film Festival! Our film Weirdos is a spooky comedy blending humor, heart & horror in a thrilling supernatural adventure!

Developing our own IP is important, since we have so many stories to tell, and we’re just getting started!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities/skills that helped in my journey.

1) Build genuine connections, we get further together.
2) Be amazing. Always. Which means Practice. Practice. Practice.
3) If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m always looking for new collaborators:
