We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Victoria Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I like to say that purpose found me, quietly and loudly all at the same time. I always loved writing and the community of people. Since I was a child, while I did not speak much, I was always immersed in language. I wanted to know the stories of some, and write the stories of many, including my own. I quickly realized though that my purpose expanded beyond “simply” writing, It extended to how I connected with people. Purpose found me through my willingness to serve and do my own healing work.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Let me take you on a journey through my world at By Victoria LLC. A space where authenticity and stability intertwine, creating the perfect environment for transformative self-discovery, acceptance, and awareness.
Now, let’s talk about writing and storytelling—the heart and soul of what I do. As a writer myself, I understand the power of crafting narratives that resonate deeply with readers, stories that not only captivate but also heal, encourage, inspire and uplift.
I’m not just a writer; I’m a multi-passionate individual when it comes to words. From serving as a trusted developmental editor for global publishing houses to running my personal business as a Writing Coach, Strategist, Guided Writer, Event Curator, and Speaker, I’ve immersed myself in every aspect of the writing world and in the world of building healed communities.
What sets me apart is my commitment to helping fellow writers find their voices and embrace their stories fully. I’m not here to just guide them along their publishing paths; I’m here to empower them to own their narratives and silence the doubts that hold them back.
My reach extends far beyond the confines of any one place. Through mentoring sessions and speaking engagements, I’ve had the privilege of touching lives across continents, inspiring countless souls to unlock the healing potential of their words. I am currently creating and executing guided writing experiences across the world!
At By Victoria LLC, words are more than just tools—they’re vehicles for personal growth and transformation. Every word I choose is carefully selected to nourish the soul and spark change. Language is the catalyst to telling the truth and healing.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most impactful things on my journey have been:
Prayer – I am a firm believer that prayer changes things. Not always when I want them to be changed, but the change does come. Over the years I have had to learn to shift my prayers from always asking God for something to simply thanking him, and being VERY honest with my desires, fears, and frustrations. All of it.
Community- We do not journey alone. I wish many of us digested this concept earlier. We live in a very divided community. We either glorify doing it alone or in silence. Many of us are hurt by those who have taken advantage of us. While all of this matters, it is imperative to remember that it is in community that we learn to serve while also being served. There is healing in giving, receiving, and gifting.
Consistency/ Strategy- This one! What is the journey without being consistent and having strategy. It is easy to rush the process or launch what we believe is the “next best thing” without any real strategy to maintain it. In return, having the proper tools to maintain business or any obligation helps us become, and be much more productive and consistent. This is daily learning for me. I have to actively work at this and remind myself that the consistency will produce the discipline needed to get through the moments that are tough.
While these are not the only pillars I live by, they are three pillars that can truly transform your journey! To best develop or improve on these I would suggest the following. Overall, always do what is most natural to you.
1. **Prayer**: Make it personal, make it yours. Prayer isn’t just about reciting words; it’s about pouring out your heart, your hopes, and your fears to a higher power. Find a quiet space, set aside some time each day, and just talk. It doesn’t have to be fancy or scripted—just real. Realness yields relationships.
2. **Community**: Don’t go it alone! Seek out like-minded souls who are on a similar journey. Whether it’s joining a local group, attending gatherings, or connecting online, surrounding yourself with supportive folks can be a game-changer. Share your struggles, your victories, and everything in between—it’s amazing what a little camaraderie can do. Be open, be honest, and most importantly be willing.
3. **Consistency**: Here’s the key—small steps, big impact. Consistency isn’t about making huge leaps every day; it’s about showing up, day in and day out, even when it’s tough. Start with manageable goals and build from there. Maybe it’s dedicating a few minutes to prayer each morning, having weekly business meetings even with yourself if you are currently a team of one, or committing to one community event per week. Whatever it is, stick with it. Over time, those little habits will progress into something powerful. Let consistency lead your strategic moves and discipline.
Remember, it’s all about progress. Progression looks and feels different for us all. Stay encouraged and embrace where you are NOW. Stay open to grow. Trust that each step you take is ordered, and put in the work. There is no way around this.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client ranges. However, the one consistent thing anyone who works with me must have, is a willingness to allow the words to meet them where they are first. I do not write nor speak simply to be heard, but to help heal. I believe language and how we communicate with one another shifts the atmosphere. I desire and journey with clients who understand and embody this as well!
