Meet Heather Kornman

We were lucky to catch up with Heather Kornman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Heather, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
As a creative in this fast paced, modern world we live in I have found to keep my creativity alive, I simply rest when needed. When the creativity sparks inside of me, it is alive, and keeps me moving, and grooving, and seeing the creation through from dream to bringing it into the physical. And then, just as all cycles in life, when I feel tired, and the creative spark has fizzled I fully surrender into rest. Rest for me to recharge. Rest for me to breathe. Rest for me to soak up some sun. Rest for me to sleep in, long slumbery hours. Rest for me to meditate. Rest for me to snuggle with loved one. Rest for me to cook, and eat nourishing foods. Rest for all the things.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the founder, owner, and creator of The golden triangle, a Refill and sustainability shop in Lomita, California. This journey began for me as I love working with The Earth, and creating as little of waste (plastic waste, non-biodegradable waste specifically) as possible. I wanted to create a platform to share this lifestyle with more of my community, and to offer non toxic, low waste, quality products with ease. I also offer mini urban homesteading consultation, including edible garden consultation, chicken keeping, and gardening with moon as my structure. I believe that if we work with The Earth, grow food from The Earth, we will fall more, and more in love with The Earth, and in turn will naturally protect, and care for her.
Currently, I am focusing on growing this Refill shop on Narbonne Avenue, in Lomita where I have my brick n’ mortar storefront. It has been so exciting, and fulfilling to bring this to my hometown, and come together in community during some of our events: Clothing swaps, pop up zero waste coffee events, planting, gardening, sewing, and DIY workshops.
There are so many more ideas, sustainable product launches, fun events, and community building in the works, and I am so excited to share it all with you.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, and feeling into it, I am confident that trusting my intuition has been key in evolving my passions into reality. I also lean into trusting my creative flow, when I feel creative, alive, colorful, and inspired to create I move forward with this energy with force, and gusto, and rest and pause creation when I need to. I also use many grounding, and connecting practices to keep me flowing beautifully. Some of these practices include, kundalini breathwork, and meditation, gardening into the raw earth with my bare hands, walking in the sand, and grass barefoot, and cooking nourishing foods.

Some advice I can offer to those early on in their journey is to find your own truth, your “why”, breathe in deep to your heart, and then even deeper into your soul, to what lights you up inside, to what makes you feel you are glowing from the inside out, write it down, and the “how” will shortly follow …

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
OOOWEEEE, overwhelm can be big, feel heavy, and trudge us into the darkness. When I feel overwhelm coming over me, I have found it best to pause, breathe, and rest. If it is an in the moment overwhelm response, I communicate with my family that I need some time (sometimes its 5 minutes, sometimes its a couple hours) I use this time to breathe, and pause communication so that I can come back to myself, my heart, and the light that is my intention to shine brightly. Once, I feel more grounded, and connected back to the light I will rejoin with my family, and be.
