We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katia Plotnikoff. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katia below.
Katia, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
You know, I really don’t know where it comes from but I am so grateful it’s there! I think I’m generally a very optimistic person (maybe even a bit delusional sometimes) but it’s gotten me through some pretty challenging times. I guess it’s kind of like my base line, and then on days and times I find myself in really challenging situations – those are the times I need to choose to be positive and remember that things will work out, or at least change. It may just not look like it at the time, but rainbows do come after the storm, and you have to be open or looking for them to see.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am many things, but I think the things that I’ve been focusing on cultivating in my life the most lately has been my acting career for the last ten years, as well as learning energy medicine and how to heal the body, mind and soul.
Even from a young age I found I was always asking questions, I just had to understand things and my mom said “a simple answer was never enough with you” I would keep prodding deeper and deeper trying to understand. That hasn’t changed much. I’ve found that both acting and energy alchemy really allow me to ask those deep questions about myself, and humanity, and have a felt experience that can bring me closer to the answers I’m looking for, not that I think you can ever really find THE answer to those deep questions. They just continue spiralling deeper and deeper, like life. But it makes me feel more connected to myself and others, and a deeper sense of peace the more I can understand.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Love this one, I love reflecting back on things, because it almost instantly bring such a sense of gratitude to see how it all makes sense in the end (some things never will, unfortunately) but I love it when they do. Hindsight you are such a beautiful thing.
Right now, and I think it changes depending on where you are in your life and the circumstances, but for me specifically it would be to trust your gut (instincts), have the courage to go for what you want, and continue to feed faith over fear.
I think my biggest advice (and I’m telling myself this too right now, because I also need to hear it) but when you don’t feel strong and can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, look back at other times in your life when you felt like this. What happened when you were put in a place of fear and what was the outcome, because I can almost always guarantee it got better eventually. Things will change, they always do that is the only constant, and when you take yourself out of how you ‘think’ something should go, you surrender to how it is going, then you can move forward and find ways to enjoy what it is. Not saying it’s easy, but you gotta do it – you’ll thank yourself for it later, I promise.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
How quantum do you wanna get? haha … currently, I would say that I am learning about unconditional love and how to dissolve all (or as many) of my unconscious blocks and fears around it. That sh*t’s a doozy!
I believe so strongly that the body wants to be whole and healed, and it’s our own demons and malfunction of thinking that creates the blocks from it, even in the sense of our career success and aspirations, relationships and all other parts of our lives. We often limit ourselves or accept less than what we want because some sneaky part of us doesn’t think we deserve it.
Shakespeare said it best – “there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so”
So in a nut shell, my challenges I’m working through at the moment; to heal the root cause that has presented type one diabetes that hasn’t fully manifested in my body, muster the courage and strength to put my own vision of art out into the world (hello heavy imposter syndrome!), and heal my relationship with myself to welcome in love and abundance (without reflecting my own ideas or attachments) haha to put it all simply 😉
It’s all been quite the learning process, with a whole lot of ups and downs, but I think that’s why we are here, to have the human experience. It’s a wild and beautiful one.
