We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Magon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence has come from years of getting to know myself and figuring out how I want to present myself to the world. Growing up, I was a bit more introverted and it took more effort to step out of my comfort zone. I think a big step that helped me gain confidence was taking dance classes. I remember we would have specific days in class where we would only work on our facial expressions. Then, we would connect them with the steps in our routine and expand the overall performance. And this can work for any sport. Baseball, cheerleading, hockey, you name it. Seeing yourself be happy in an activity automatically translates to a deeper love and desire to be good at it. It is a kind of trick on your brain that allows confidence to build from the inside out. This might sound a bit cliche, but fake it till you make it. If you believe you’re confident, you will be. If you pretend you’re confident, you actually are. And I have done this in my work as a commercial real estate agent. Going into a call or a meeting believing and knowing you are the best gives that impression to the client as well. That energy then translates back to you, and it becomes a constant cycle of increasing confidence!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am co-founder of “The Commercial Broker”, a commercial real estate team that is defining a new wave of the commercial real estate business. We primarily focus in multifamily apartment buildings, and we approach real estate in a way that allows veteran investors to continue getting the crisp and refined service they have always known while adding a refreshing twist that also caters to the “rookies” of the business – newcomers who want to become proficient in investing but might not know where to start. We pride ourselves on our knowledge of the industry. We are able to really understand our clients’ needs, current market trends and inventory, and connect them together to find exactly what they are looking for. It is like putting puzzle pieces together. We constantly scour the game to fit everything together perfectly. Another highlight is the fact that our team is made up of a majority of women. We all come from different racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds as well. With commercial real estate being a male-dominated industry, it is exciting to see our female members’ success and recognition. When it comes to investing in apartment buildings, our team provides service like a local tour guide in your favorite vacation destination. We know the ins and outs of the business. We know what not to do. We know exactly where we want to land before we take that leap. And, we come up with tailored plans that detail every step of the process, from start to finish. We are the most energetic, enthusiastic, and committed people who showcase the excitement of the industry with fresh perspectives and, of course, consistency. Our main goal is to put our clients in the best position possible, so to anyone who is looking to invest in the real estate market, from a duplex all the way up to 100+ units, we got you.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Work ethic, persistence, consistency. Worth ethic. You have to want it. You can’t come into something thinking it will be easy and that high reward will come with low effort. You have to be motivated from the inside out and really desire success (whatever that may look like for you) to really push past the starting line. Persistence. Success does not happen overnight. You have to keep trying even if you feel like you’re failing. My mentor has said to me so many times that failure is a sign to keep going. One thing doesn’t work, fine. Try again but tweak some of the steps. Continue on the same path but look in a slightly different direction. You make a wrong turn, great. Turn the other way and you’re one step closer to your destination. The road may be slightly longer, but you pick up new skill sets, clients, or a bit of knowledge along the way that make your destination even more worthwhile. Consistency. Once you find the right path, and you know it works, stick with it. Make the people you work with know the quality of the product or service they are getting. Stick with your core principles, but add those skills and pieces of knowledge you learn along the way to make the product or service even higher quality. People will notice.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes! We are always looking for more people to collaborate with. As mentioned before, we work with anyone who wants to invest in apartment buildings, whether that be expert investors, people who are just starting out, or anyone in between. For the savvy investors, we want to work jointly and provide access to our extensive off market deals and pool of investors ready to make a move on something quickly, while learning and understanding your CRE journey as well. For the people who have only looked in the residential (home) market, we encourage you to take a look at multifamily too! It is so important to break into a new market, see what options are available, and diversify your real estate portfolio. For the newer investors or even people who have not invested yet but want to, we’d love to know what your goals are and make a personalized plan that works for your situation. I also want to make it clear that commercial real estate investing is for anyone and everyone. You don’t have to be well versed in apartment buildings to invest in them. That is where we come in to help you out. Especially in LA with an abundance of creative people, if you’re an actor, singer, dancer, content creator, anyone! If you have ever thought about investing, we have your back. Let’s come up with a plan that makes the most sense for you! Please reach out with any questions, and I’d be happy to answer.
