Meet Lauren Topor

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauren Topor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Truthfully, I don’t think you do. There’s something about looking fear in the face and showing up for yourself. To me, the uneasy feelings are just confirmation that you’re on the right path.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Good Karma Photo is officially in its second year. Since launching in early 2023, my brand has evolved in ways that I didn’t know were possible. For me, it’s important to create, step back, and give my business room to grow in ways that aren’t so formulaic.

This season, I will be debuting a new photo-collage postcard series for some popup events. I am also launching Good Karma Creative, the video side of Good Karma Photo. I’m excited to launch this part of the business because it’s something I have been wanting to do for a long time and it will give me the platform to highlight and uplift other creatives.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Adaptability
2. Resourcefulness
3. Communication

Adaptability: Things will almost always not go according to plan. How you choose to respond to an unexpected change is everything.

Resourcefulness: You don’t need the most expensive gear or equipment. Use what you have.

Communication: Just ask the question or pitch the thing. A little communication can go a long way.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes! Good Karma Photo is all about collaboration.

As the product side of Good Karma Photo evolves, it seems like the next step is to move into retail. Good Karma Photo prints are currently available in the newly debuted Maricopa Botanicals space in Tempe. MB is an amazing plant shop that has a curated selection of locally-made goods that complement their lineup of cacti and botanicals.

I’d love to see Good Karma postcards in places like hotels and gift shops. If you’re looking to stock local art, please reach out via my website: goodkarmaphoto.online.

With the launch of Good Karma Creative, I’m also putting out a call for local creators. My goal is to promote and uplift the creative community with a new video series. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, DM me on Instagram at @goodkarma.photo.

I’m always open to photoshoots with brands and businesses in the hospitality and culinary industries, too!
