Meet Tamira Smith

We recently connected with Tamira Smith and have shared our conversation below.

Tamira, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience stems from a lineage of well-educated, strong, and resilient women in my family. They have consistently set exemplary standards and instilled in me the belief that with hard work, education, and a clear plan, anything is achievable.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am fortunate to wear many hats in my professional journey. Recently, I joined a nationally syndicated radio show, The Morning Hustle, as a digital producer, with the goal of helping them become the number one morning show in America—a prospect that fills me with immense excitement. Additionally, I work with an outstanding company called Digital Citizens Media, where we focus on producing and building podcast communities. However, my most cherished role is serving as the CEO of my nonprofit, With Love From Harlem. Through this organization, we provide Black and Brown families in Harlem and the Bronx with essential resources for everyday success and create once-in-a-lifetime experiences for families with lower incomes. I firmly believe that life experiences should not be limited by financial constraints.

Looking ahead, we have several exciting initiatives in the pipeline, including upcoming events and expansions that aim to broaden our impact and reach even more families. Aside from all of this, I am actively working on building my personal brand as a media personality. I am committed to engaging in the necessary yet complex conversations that are essential for our community’s growth and development.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Reflecting on my journey, three qualities have been most impactful: confidence, a willingness to learn, and adaptability.

Confidence is essential because you must believe in yourself to inspire belief in others. This self-assurance will help you navigate challenges and seize opportunities.

A willingness to learn is crucial in our ever-evolving world. Embrace the fact that you cannot know everything and commit to continuous learning. This mindset will keep you open to new ideas and help you grow.

Adaptability is necessary to thrive amidst constant change. Being able to adjust your strategies and approach in response to new information and circumstances is a vital skill.

For those early in their journey, my advice is to study the successful individuals in your field. Observe and learn from those who are already excelling. Understand that your path may not always be clear, but every experience, whether a success or a failure, teaches valuable lessons. Embrace your mistakes as opportunities for growth and stay focused on your goals, even when things don’t go as planned. Each step you take brings you closer to where you’re meant to be.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

A plethora of people have assisted me in reaching this point in my life and career. My college professor, Kim Landon, has been particularly impactful in helping me navigate life’s challenges as a professional and adult. She taught me so much about news and media, emphasizing the importance of staying informed and ensuring I was never left out of a conversation. This knowledge has been crucial in helping me articulate myself properly and stay engaged with the world around me.

My mom has always been a steadfast supporter, providing encouragement through every challenge I’ve faced. Professionally, I am fortunate to have a team of remarkable individuals who guide me in navigating this industry. Shana Sanders, Dean Jackson, and Don Vito are among the many people I consult when making important decisions. Their insights and support have been invaluable, and I am deeply grateful to have such a robust support system on this journey.

I am also forever thankful to Ray Daniels for presenting me with an opportunity that allowed me to step into my light. His belief in my potential has been a significant catalyst for my growth and success.
