Meet Romina Mendoza

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Romina Mendoza. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Romina below.

Hi Romina, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

For me, resilience comes from self-confidence and passion in what I do. We all face trauma, adversity, and other stresses. Being resilient allows me to overcome obstacles and make creative and courageous choices. I have been in situations where I needed to decide whether to continue on a path where I don’t feel comfortable or start over, and every time I have chosen to put my well-being first. It hasn’t been easy, and with every issue I have faced, I have learned from experience. I have built my confidence on the wine industry by studying, tasting wine and connecting with wonderful people in the industry that teach me every time. That knowledge gives me the strenght needed to continue my path, because I know that there are few people in my region with such passion and knowledge as I have.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a wine specialist with focus on education and creation of experiences within the wine industry. I found passion on wine when, 10 years ago, I realized it was filled with information and encompasses different subjects such as: agriculture, history, art, biochemistry, and it makes you enhace any meal experience; but above all, the most I have enjoyed in this industry is the people I have met and the friends I´ve made.
I recently partnered with Wine Smarties, the wine school in San Diego, California led by Master of Wine Lindsay Pomeroy to be the first in California to impart a world recognized wine certification WSET level 2 in Spanish. This is a wine program fot thos professionals and consumers interested in learnig about wine regiones and wine styles in a comprehensive way.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Do not be afraid to ask, connect and participate in wine tastings as much as you can. If there is an opportunity, travel. Travel with conscience and experience what the locals eat, do, and drink with them. In this industry, connecting with people and understanding their needs is the best thing you can do from the beggining of your journey. When attending wine tasting, don´t just drink, but ask, be curious, show your interest. That is how you get people to see you.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

I am starting a solo proyect with tons of ideas that have been in my mind for years and I am currently developing. I am writing everything down and, like a puzzle, organizing and prioritizing the thoughts in order to develop them and move forward.
